Quest88 Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Read about it and it looks like fun. Feel like buying. Anyone know when is it going to be released in Singapore? Is there any shop I can reserve a set? Don't see any electronic boutique or such shop around locally..
sebastiansong Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Local release is March 2007 (to be confirmed). pending approval from IDA which the Wii is a wireless device. Wii is region coded and there is the UK (Pal), US and Jap set Give www.seowchoon.com a call... they still have the Jap set, sold out on the US.
silver tortoise Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 saw the set at century square tampines.. game shop @ level 5 ;D soooooo tempting
sebastiansong Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 saw the set at century square tampines.. game shop @ level 5 ;D soooooo tempting That is mega multimedia... http://www.videogame.com.sg/contactus.asp are u sure u saw it there cos I called them and they claimed they don stock the wii.
Quest88 Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 hmmm. interesting. did not go to any game shop for quite awhile. i just read on seowchoon forums that the wii was sold at $1199 with 4 games? crazy price.. considering that its US$250 only. at that price can get a ps3 already :o
Darthfunk Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Actually i would advise for those who are not in the hurry to get it later. 1) Exorbitant pricing for new release. 2) First and 2nd generation tend to have more problems and bug. Then again there are alot of people who dont mind the above 2 points :P
silver tortoise Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 That is mega multimedia... http://www.videogame.com.sg/contactus.asp are u sure u saw it there cos I called them and they claimed they don stock the wii. yup saw them hook it up and play it too, not sure if it for sale yet confirm nintendo wii ;D Hmm... if only got MO for this @US$250.......
Jedi R Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 The Wii is damn fun... in fact, it is more fun then the PS3... I played both at my friend's and i must said the Wii win the PS3 hands down in term of gamer experience. In term of image, PS3 is the obvious winner. However, if I can only buy one, I will go for the Wii.... SeowChoon was selling for $799 as of last Sat with Wii sport. Only available if u know them...
sebastiansong Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 yup saw them hook it up and play it too, not sure if it for sale yet confirm nintendo wii ;D Hmm... if only got MO for this @US$250....... the only place I heard there is surplus is the Pal sets in Switzerland.. otherwise sold out
championboxer Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 i'm in Australia.... and there are sets available in stores locally.. retailing at about AUD400-450 with 5 games built in (they call them WII Sports)
sebastiansong Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 i'm in Australia.... and there are sets available in stores locally.. retailing at about AUD400-450 with 5 games built in (they call them WII Sports) great news... the Australia set shd also come with Wii Play.. its not a game more like a tutorial of mini games to teach people how to use the wiimotes.. so far only the Pal sets come with it. the only problem is to realise the Wii is region coded.. if u own a US set u can only play US games, Pal you are struck with Euro... there is a recent report abt the Euros having some issues with Wii online... but if you live in Australia, I encourage you to get it there
htfreak Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Finally took the plunge and bought the US Wii set together with WarioWare Smooth Moves on CNY Eve. After the regulatory reunion dinner, I took it out and plugged it to my dad's Rear Projection TV and soon the whole house was filled with shrieks of laughter as the extended family took turns having their turn at bowling, boxing and of course those Wario Mini Games. I have to say that the Wii is defintely more family fun than the PS3 and Xbox360 which are more eye candy. Will try to post some pictures and more details later.

I played WarioWare Smooth Moves and it was one of the few games that got me burst out laughing... Presently 13 hours into Zelda... hate the jumping... haha Wii is so fun that I havent even bother to unpack my PS3...
Jediknight Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 When Lucasarts comes up with a Jedi game for the Wii, using the Wii-mote to control the saber, I'll be first in line to get one!
htfreak Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 When Lucasarts comes up with a Jedi game for the Wii, using the Wii-mote to control the saber, I'll be first in line to get one! Hmm, I believe there is one already or at least that's what I saw in one of the Wii trailers. Anyway, here's my setup and having played a bit more over the past two days, I feel that it's really a well thought out and ingenious gaming system that's revolutionary. One thing that has been debunked is that IP blocking thing preventing import users from downloading Virtual Console stuff. Paid for 2000 Wii points using my credit card and downloaded Super Mario 64. Compatibility with Gamecube games is great with no problems so far with my ten odd titles. Only pity is that the Wii does not seem to support MP3 playback which would allow one to playback your own background music for Photo Channel use. My only regret is not to fork out $880 when it first came out back in Nov having believed in the lies about VC support.

Quest88 Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 i am half jealous. :) $880! wow. nowadays should be going for $600 odd right? you bought a U.S. set? anyway with a possible march release date, i'm trying to hang on to wait. with gritted teeth. grrr.
Jedi R Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I am also waiting patiently for the local set.... ;) Hope they come in soon....

Now it's possible to get the US Wii set for as low as $630 at Playboxx (Just found out, Damm). However, this is without the replacement adapter which costs about $39 at Seow Choon (Also just found out, Double Damm). Hence, if you can't wait, your total cost right now would be $669 (Triple Damm) which is $170 more than the rumoured $499 local pricing. Quite okay lah without having to vomit blood waiting for Maxsoft to get their act together.
htfreak Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The more shops I call in my hunt for the Wii Rayman title, the more I feel that I have overpaid for my Wii. The cheapest I found so far is S PowerHouse which is selling the Wii + Replacement AC Adapter for $650 plus a 1 year in house warranty (QUAD DAMM). That should allay the warranty fears from those waiting for the local set. Haiz. :'( P.S. If you want to get an additional WiiMote controller, get one bundled together with the Wii Play game title for slightly more than a regular game title instead of paying S$75 for the WiiMote seperately.

Long road ahead of me to recover from my epson TW-1K, PS3 and XA2 acquistions. New rumor that Xbox 360 HDMI version with 120GB releasing in May.....sigh ;D http://gear.ign.com/articles/766/766047p1.html

Hi Jeff thnx for sharing the above info... think WiiPlay is out at Gamescore (at least that was what they advertised on their website)... not sure abt the other stores. Am also hunting for Elebits, Excite Trucks and Rayman
Quest88 Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 i got a question since i haven't bought a console since the N64. :) is it tough to find US games in Singapore when the local set is released? not sure how this works actually. always felt restricted if we have trouble sourcing for imported games which may be more expensive.

The local Wii set will accept UC titles though it is a local set. The local stores are stocking both UC and Jap titles. Less of the latter since you need a Jap Wii to play them. It is safe to invest in a UC Wii. Both Jeff and I are good examples of people who took the plunge and enjoying the consoles now.
htfreak Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Quest, don't worry lah. Even the dunno-when-will-be-released local set will be adopting the UC standard. Hence, there will be no problems getting it as the distributor will be importing these titles in. Seb, just confirmed that Gamescore does indeed have their Wii Play titles in yesterday.
