domho8 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Early elimination For Pooll???? ;D Or revenge for Pool!! ;D http://soccernet.espn.go.com/index?cc=4716 :)
armoury Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 With the League Cup tie fogged out, and the same teams meeting at the same place for the FA Cup, they were joking that they could play the one game and let the result stand for both competitions. Given the timings, that is not entirely a bad idea: FA Cup 3rd Rd is played on Sat Jan 6, with League Cup semi due on Jan 9. Between now and Jan 9, I just don't see any slots for a rescheduled League Cup game. I suppose what might happen is Arsenal and Liverpool will play the LC game on Jan 9, with the semi 1st leg being rescheduled somewhere betwen then and the 2nd leg on Jan 24 -- or the Jan 24 date becomes the first leg, with the second leg played a bit later. I remember reading that a single game's result counting in two competitions has happened before, in South America I think.
zamus_aran Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 That's a very unusual scenario. I don't think neither Arsene Wenger nor Rafa Benitez would be open to that idea, given that these 2 top managers are in desperate need for silverware this season.
rahul Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 An easier solution would be not to play either of the game and split the results. Liverpool can go ahead in Carling Cup and Arsenal in FA cup. Im sure everyone will be happy with that. ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 rahul, everyone = you+armoury, right? it's a small world after all...
sonofdbn Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Perhaps the more nervous Liverpool supporters who fear not making it through EITHER cup would also be happy.... ;D
oliverlim Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Perhaps the more nervous Liverpool supporters who fear not making it through EITHER cup would also be happy.... ;D Or that Arsenal go cupless for another year ;D Oliver
armoury Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Liverpool can go ahead in Carling Cup and Arsenal in FA cup. As it turns out, Liverpool get neither and Arsenal continue in both. I am gob-smacked. Even though I'm a Gooner, I would never have expected them to hand out two spankings at "Fortress" Anfield. I'm particularly surprised with last night's Carling Cup game, since it was Liverpool's last realistic chance at silverware, they would have wnated revenge for the FA Cup defeat, and Arsenal fielded a second-string containing only two members of the recognised first XI (Fabregas and Toure). To win was already something, to score SIX at Anfield? Wow!
SiriuslyCold Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 bleah u cn tell by our lineup it wasn't a serious one. still, :( doh. :(
rahul Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Wow. What a result !!! Who would have known that Anfield would turn out to be the ground where a lot of our players hit top form. 2 from Rosicky 4 from Baptista Scoring 9 goals out of 11 chances !!! Thats so unlike our early season form. Remember CSKA Moscow ? Maybe we should play at Anfield every week ;D On serious note, we have certainly done well against top teams this season. We just lose the plot against the smaller ones that want to stiffle the midfield and defend all the time. Need more consistency to challenge for premiership, but we certainly have a chance against any team in cup competitions.
f_spider Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 The 6-3 scoreline , more alike d S-League......... Kelong?
lewlian Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Thought someone mixed up a tennis score in the soccer update this morning... guess not. :o On another note... there are no words I can say that doesn't contain any punctuation marks.
jon_g9 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 came home this evening to see liverpool being thrashed respectively on channel 22 and 24 at the same time, what a ironic coincidence
SiriuslyCold Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 it's called déja vu. disgraceful. we shall not discuss this aberration any more.
