Is the Singnet 10Mbps + free Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV a good deal? How much is that TV selling for currently?

Maybe drop my Starhub MOL and get that... ;D

I just signed up for it. The best price I can find for the TV is $1,550. It does not come with wall mount and they do not know how much would that cost (as it is a 3rd party).

if you are within the wireless range, u can tap these free wireless.

of course, you have to take note that free wireless speed is only UP TO 512k.

I think the range will be limited to be at most 200m-300m from the wireless device. But of course, it's just a guess.

Why not you try and see if you can detect the wireless@sg signal now? The papers say it's active from today.

I wonder can sign up at Sitex (to enjoy the free registration + voucher) but only want it to start near end of year as my Starhub MOL contract ends near end of the year. No point to have 2 broadband lines.

Guys

stop the "mine is bigger than yours" crazyness that Singnet and Starhub want you to play.

You are willing to pay Singet 4 years to get an LCD TV? Don't you think the prices will come down in said four years?

4x12*75 =?

S$3 600

Edit How did they come up with 28 months? I saw ?8 and I translated to 48. is 28 month the duration until CNY 2009?

Ok, then 28 month may be worth it... But Bravia S? yuks. maybe for the bathroom

do you need all that bandwidth? it is even available for internet (not Singapore) surfing?.

I am myself going to downgrade my Internet connection: the speed for sites outside Singapore is just too slow.

How mucgh would you save by signing with less (but usable) bandwidth?

It's not 4yrs - it's 28mths. I'm already paying about $70/mth for my MaxOnline - so I see no problems in "jumping ship" to Singnet. Not planning to "slow down" either as I've got as many as 5 PCs online sometimes.

28 x $79.95 = $2238.60. Outside price for this Sony is probably $1600 or so. So, can consider as if $638.60 for 28mths of 10Mbps internet...  ;D

I agree and disagree with you Karlie. :)

I have a friend who was thinking about getting an LCD anyway. It worked out nicely for him as he was also coming up to the end of his existing contract.

His wife is also known to have a keen interest in doing Google searches with +torrent, if you get my drift. So the bandwidth is appreciated.

All that said, for most people it's just not worth it unless the pipe is that thick all the way to the majority of sites they visit.

Then there is the argument of build it and they will come. If there are enough people with that bandwidth then maybe local content providers will fill the pipes up again :). After all I started surfing BBS on a 2400 bps modem. I can't imagine using the net today with that. LOL

my first modem was also 2400bps.. when 19.2kbps was out everyone shout loud loud already. :P

my 2 cents.

with wireless@sg coming up soon, alot of ppl will be getting free internet access. not many need that much bandwidth except the more savvy ones.. largely people still just check email or do light surfing. no idea how this will impact the price of internet.

basically singnet's deal is to tie people to a high bandwidth. true, not much use outside of sg, but what are we seeing now? more singapore based services such as IPTV, movie/music download/streaming, local game servers, etc.

not sure if this is just a way to lock pppl down into premium paying plans and try to cross-sell the other services. may be sort of an extension to the way starhub's latest promotion whereby they give free internet to some websites to try to get people hooked.

Will wireless@sg become island-wide (meaning everywhere in Sg - not only community centres and hot-spots)? I stuck out my wireless adapter out my room window and found around 15 wireless networks (many unsecured.. :P) but no wireless@sg...

Hehe! Unfortunately in Sg law, that's considered stealing.

I always have a problem with this Singapore way of doing business: "pay the full price -> get gift you don't need'.

Like the previous Singnet offer: they were offering the lousiest model of Thinkpads.

I would really prefer that they offset the price of said gift from the contract.

In this case the Sony is nice for those people who wanted to buy an LCD at any quality, but for me, it's no use.

Unless the wife is only doing BT with peers in Singapore, the extra bandwidth is not in use...

Plus throttling....

Then there is the argument of build it and they will come. If there are enough people with that bandwidth then maybe local content providers will fill the pipes up again :).

The problem is that it free for them to increase the local bandwidth: the pipes are laid out.

To increase the International bandwidth they have to pay... so their profit margin reduces.
