Many of the 37" LCD display can be had from $2.2K and up(correct me if I am wrong).

Would a projector+screen(at abt the same price) offer equivalent or better HT experience?

PS: In the 1st place, I dunno whats the market price for projectors(DLP?) and screen.

each got their own pros and cons. projector need black-out, shorter lifespan and other misc issues such as throw distance, but IMO better pq and bigger screen.

anyway, IMO if really just for movies (not tv watching) then go for projector if your house can take it.

$2.2k can probably get you a decent 720p pj.

Which are the decent ones that cost ard $2k?

Then how much would a screen cost?

Btw, if u're getting a PJ, u'd need a tv as well. But I'm sure u already has one already rite? A crt perhaps? dat will do just fine. Try to get an LCD pj instead of dlp if u cant have gd light control...

Most likely you need a long cable to connect to your source, which could cost hundred and up.

Questions to ask:

Can PJ take multiple sources, or need a switch?

Does PJ comes with tuner?

To get good picture you need a good and properly mounted screen, which is not cheap.

oops. looks like singapore prices still haven't fallen?

HD70, AE900 all still quite high about $2.5k I guess?

Anyway, don't know about you la.. when I bought my projector the shop gave me screen, 10m cable and stand for free. think maybe HDMI cable cannot lah. :P

For movies, a PJ, even a modest sub-$3k LCD PJ,  offers a better HT experience than a 37" or 40" LCD TV in a light controlled room.

But in the end, i think many PJ users also have LCD/Plasma TVs when it is not convenient to use the PJ...

ccwjames , I have not decided what to get.

Am looking at the current deals at KEC

Cant afford much, so the Epson and the Optoma are the ones that I can afford. Im not sure if any where else is offering good deals too. Which are the projects that are in the price range of 2.3-2.5k?

From where I sit to the wall, is about 3.2m.

why not look at 2nd hand market? PJ is usually much cheaper 2nd hand cos low resale value.

alot of bros here looking to upgrade to 1080p. :)

ks, I believe the prices of PJs on the website is dated. Call KEC Sound to find out the current "promo" prices.

If you don't mind 2nd hand, there will always be upgraders who may be selling their PJs ( i am one of the guilty). You should be able to pick up 720p PJs at reasonable prices. Of cos you hv to factor in cost of screen, cabling, PJ mount and maybe even blackout curtains.

If your viewing is mostly SCV/TV programmes, a LCD/Plasma TV should suffice but if you watch movies and now that the trend is towards HD programmes, it may make sense to invest in a projector. The big screen and the 'in your face' feeling can't be matched
