Aego M speaker system for HTS

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Im a newie here. Duno whether the right place to post for advice here.. I try my luck and hoped some kind souls can give me a tip or two. Thanks in advance.

Trying to get a entry level HTS for myself.

Am targeting Denon 1507.

Till to the small living room i have and rather tight budget i opt for satellite speakers. I was recommended either Jamo A102 HCS5 or Acoustic energy Aego M series. I like the AE Aego M series cos its size and compact plus its design. But i was told that the Aego M is a pc 2.1 speaker. The guy in SLS said he will set up for me to 5.1. Meant- i will  have two sub and 5 same size speaker at a cost of $888.

http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Product_range/Aego_series/Aego_M.asp

So my questions is - shall i go for such speaker system. Tot is not a hifi grade system but the M series do win some good review. And furthrmore the Aego M have an 8 ohm more than the Jamo who have 6ohm onli.

Was it worth purchase? Is the system overpriced?

Kindly share yr tots  here.

Dude

The Aego is a mainly PC / Mp3 speaker system

It sounds good for that but at almost $900, have you read the threads on 1-1.5k speakers, just search this forum.

They are cute and have WAF big time

Also the sub is fine up to the mid - bass frequencies but hardly plunges the depths.

Test it and see if you like the sound, its not just about opinions.

Can you take a full sized speaker set?

If voice or mid-range is important, this may not be for you.

Good luck!

AEGO speakers are 2 Ohms. Not sure whether Denon or Onkyo can handle. But I have tried it w/ Marantz and didnt get any problem.

AEGO-M 2.1 costs around 299sgd. 3 sets will costs 897sgd where u get 6 sat speakers and  3 subs already.

I cant take the full size speaker.

I more into music and movie..not a gameboy tot.

I love detail music and solid bass being heard. So does the Aego M do the job?

WHen i heard from the showroom is sound 0k but i was enclosed in a shwroom not in my living room open airea. IT do make a diffferent i guess.

Aego speaker onli 2 OHM? i read review that is 8 OHM.

I cant remeber the shop name. Its is selling at 369 for 2.1.Aego M. At SLS first floor.

I suggest you bring a decent dvd, with some low bass, eg Jurassic Park, Blade II etc

get familar with the bassy bits and try it.

There are many bookshelf speakers which can beat the Aego, go search for it in this forum. "1-1.5k" is the typical range perpetually asked

If all you ant is to hear the bass, down to about 60Hz which even my Monitor Audio Bronze can do, no sub needed. Bass you can feel starts lower than 40Hz, which your Aego may find hard to cope.

Audition it well and try others as well.

Detail music, YES. Solid Bass, NO. You need to upgrade the subwoofer to achieve this.

But for the price quoted, stretch your budget a little bit and go for Mission M30 set.

minerva is sourcing for satellite kinda form factor. Mission M30 maybe abit too big for him

there are a few new small sat sets ;)

a cute one from Mission called m-cube

one from Jamo

(both of which I'd seen in Adelphi or elsewhere in SG)

isn't someone selling a KEF 2005 set that would work too

which probably would all

Tried this JAMO at Adelphi yesterday, subwoofer also weak. AEGO is better.

Mission M cube too ex. KEF 2005 should be good choice.

I have tried the jamo last nite too at KEC..its sound weak..

Mission cube i havent try and have no idea how much.. As for KEF 2005.2 i have not try oso.but the price i s 1399 if i not wrong but dun really fancy the oval sharp.

I will go down to SLS and try the aego again.

Kind of lost le. with so many brand of speakers and reviews to read at and almost all have good reviews. Duno what to chose siah.  ??? ??? ???

I used to have the Marantz + AEGO combi in my bedroom. And Im happy with it, really good for music. But had to let the Marantz go(as wifey wants me to keep 1 amp only). I still have the AEGO 6.1 speakers. Dun want to let go because its really good for music even as 2.1 or 3.1 setup only.

Try to audition both DENON+AEGO and Marantz+AEGO combi.

The Definitive Tech ProCinema 60 sounds great to me. Very wide and natural soundstage from very small speakers. KEC carries them.

The Athena Micra 6 is is another package that impressed me. They are brighter than the Def Tech and Black Hawk Down sounded intense and purposeful. They are bundled with a Luxman AVR in Adelphi for about $1.3k so may be had for less than $1k.

Check them out! I wouldn't use PC speakers for HT setup as they may not be able to handle when you want to play them loud.

Dude

narrow down your list from reviews

since you have restricted yourself to small satellites, these small speakers (not bookshelves) have issues with the mid-range as many of them don't even go down to 100Hz.

I would have asked you to look at Mission M30i, JBL control 1x or Mirage.

IMO, I wouldn't do satellites if you value sound, as I 'see' from your writings.

Big speakers are not as cute, but sound better, so its the price you pay.

The Athenas look v promising though.

Have you also have a listen at MS Genie as well?

didn't someone mention 5x Monitor Audio RS90 for 1k

Juz updated u guys again..

I went to city electronics and test the aego M set up. JT is rite - after really *listening* to some music. the bass cant make it or rather the sub is not strong enough. Though the front speakers still beat well with details but lack of the punch and softness of the music. Then i try the aego T series 5.1 http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Product_range/Aego_series/Aego_T.asp

THe whole feeling is differnt again with a strong sub and a strong bass. I never try the surround sound for the rear for the movies and i felt the music are more impt. But the price aint attractive - $2100. I was hesitated cos the budget was stretch further and oso the rear speaker size is too big for me to mount on my wall near to ceiling. I have no problem wth front and centre speaker that put in TV console.

So i was thinking using this combination - buy the Aego T series with 3 speakers-- 2 front and centre but the rear speaker using the aero-T ( the 2.1 set up) http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Product_range/Aego_series/Aego_M.asp I guessed the rear speaker effect will b the same as aego T. But the cost still on the high-side-1900 even though i did not opt for the 2 others speakers. :(

Do u guys think i crazy that have such combination? or not pricing effective to have such system. ???

Thank for the tip on topic 1-1;5k set up HTS but too much review and information and i kinda rushin to buy. NOt much time to read all the reviews. Being a layman in audio i alws tot as for now some saellites speakers are able to produce sound like the big speakers. Reason not haven big spks as mentioned before - my living room not big and did not wan big speakers as well to mount on the wall near the ceiling that kind of orbit.. Am trying to have both of best worlds. 8)

Hi, what is ur budget for the speakers and the AV receiver at the moment?

Hi minerva

Satellites are different from bookshelves.

The latter has some bass, but is still pretty small.

Too many people in SG are 'kan chiong?' when buying, 'instant gratification'

Take some time, its a big purchase.

Why not pop into Adelphi -Alpha audio and try the missions?

As S.C. mentioned the MA radius are another small speaker set up.

I have the JBL as well and they sound nice, even if they are not as cute as the AEGO - do you want to pay for cuteness?

At 2k your choices are diferent again.

Currently I am running a Monitor Audio Bronze Centre & B2, no sub and its pretty nice, you may want to check the B1 and centre out.

I have a pair and they are quite small - go down to 60Hz still

Unless your budget is growing - I sense it's about 1-1.5k

Stick to it.

That Aego mixture is a little hard to fathom....

Have not audit the sound of Genie but was quoted $1500 and they dun cum with silver color anymore now. all Black. and for certain reason i tryin not to use black color and anyway i dun really fancy its shape.

Dude

Missions come in silver too  ;D

Keep your options open

But if aesthetics are vital, that narrows down your options again  ???
