Scenario:

My friend was at Sony Wisma last night, asked the sales if they have the Pearl as shown on the latest Sony brochure. The sales replied "no".

My friend wonders why the projector shown on the brochure is not available and as he is not able to demo the projector, how can he make an informed decison buying it?

With fustration, he relates to the sales his experience last year on the HS60 demo by Sony. He called Sony gallery and make an appointment to demo the HS60, he was told to go down to the showroom and view the set without the need to make an appointment. To his disappointment when he was at Sony Gallery, the set was not hooked up. The sales tried to hook the projector but it took close to 2 hours trying as the sales was not familiar with the setup. He was told to go home and make an appointment where someone more experiece can attend to him some other day. He bought a Sharp projector after the experience.

I have personally seen the HS60 and Ruby demo in Sony Gallery, the picture quality did not justify the $14999 for the Ruby or $4999 for the HS60.

As we are more tech savvy, reading up on the reviews, forum posting and technical publications. We know how far and where the Ruby and HS60 can go in terms of picture quality. But with these sloppy demo by Sony, how can the layman be pull away from the plasma/lcd display and look at the projectors?

Anyway, to come back to my friend's conversation with the sales last night. The sales gave him a number to call the complain department, told him make a formal complain. He was told nothing will be done if he doesn't make a formal complain.

I was surprised by Sony's service standard.

So guys who have the HS60, Pearl or Ruby,

You bought the projector just based on positive review? How did you make your purchase? Just order from Sony or HDB electrical shop? No testing or demo done before purchase ?(I dont consider the current sony gallery demo is good enough to convince one to buy). If bought without demo and testing, does Sony entertain panel alignment or convergence issue?

Please comment. Thanks

Thank you for reading.

There will soon be a third party retailer with a proper setup including electri-mask stewart screens, proper light control and full 7.1 channel speaker setup authorised to sell the Ruby and Pearl. Hence, your problems of waiting for the Sony Galleries to wake up their ideas are over soon.

Hi Urara,

I agree, Sony's service here with regards to projectors is hopelss. When I was looking to get a Ruby, tried a demo at Wisma and it was horrible the way it was set up. They actually have a pretty nice demo room with decent light control, but they just don't bother. To begin with it was connected via component  :-\ and fed by some crappy 3 year old Sony DVD player.

It's almost like Sony isn't really serious about selling their projectors and it's a pity because they do make good stuff.

I was fortunate that Muscular27 offered to let me view the Ruby at his place, he has an awesome setup BTW, and I made up my mind to get one on that day, after leaving his place.... ;D

Maybe if you make an official complain to Sony Japan, they might do something about it. AFAIK, in Japan they take customer service very seriously.

Later they write back "Pls write in Japanese"! Thank you.  ;D
