Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a LCD tv (e.g. 42 inch) to use for computer. Any side effects for this arrangement? (not withstanding resolution, etc..)

Is there any difference between a LCD tv and a LCD monitor?

Well, the trade off is that I will be putting it further away than usual. I have a problem with placement of my monitor in my new setup.

Just want to know if the panels are the same and if I can use it that way.

Nothing wrong with using LCD TV for monitor use.

Quite a number of forumers and personal frens say they love the big size.

Just a note: Make sure you have seen it working or buy a model that a fren uses personally.

Thanks for the tips.

Jag you are referring to incidents where the tv cannot accept computer input right? Heard about it but never seen this happen.

Most of the current 32", 37" & 42" LCD support 1366x768 resolution.... Pls take note.  :)

Sorry, are you referring that the resolution is too low, or is it something else?

I guess I will have to wait for a 1080p tv first. Will not mind a smaller screen if I can have better resolution as I have to read words on it. Better for my eyes. :)

Any recommendation of models I can look at?

Actually I quite like the Samsung tvs, but no idea about their PC compatibility.

Hmmm which has better picture quality LCD TV or LCD Monitor? Let say a Dell 3007 WFP compare with a Samsung 32 M61.

A LCD TV is generally much much brighter than a monitor, simply coz a TV is meant to be used from a distance away, so that extra brightness is no longer a glare.

Which has better PQ? I would say both are just as good......... although the LCD monitor would edge the TV out in terms of adjustments. But the sheer size of 32"-47" means LCD monitors are totally out of that size.

Once you tried using LCD TV for computer usage, you will NEVER go back to tiny LCD screen again.  ;D

Below is an example of my 26" AMOI LCD TV and 23" LG LCD TV.

so can this resolution be used for PC purposes ? ( as long as they have a VGA input/pc input)

Just saw this offer. $2,899 for 30 inch with 2560x1600@60hz resolution and HDCP. Somehow I don't think many people would use this resolution often..

What is the brand/model?

Read somewhere that said Dell is offering the 3007WFP for US$1,274. Such a far cry from Singapore's price. Sigh.

I have been testing PC application on LCD and plasma TVs. Only a handful will give u razor-sharp text comparable with CRT/LCD monitors at their native resolution. Most exhibit sofer texts after scaling. The maxmium PC resolution supported so far is 1360 x 768, almost 1:1 for all 720p panels.

If you are planning to buy one for work usage or web browsing, I would not suggest going for a TV. Video would be fine though.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a comfortable size widescreen LCD monitor for both PC and entertainment usage. Check out the new BenQ FP241W with 1080p60 HDMI/Component-video retailing at 1699. Got one recently and I'm loving it!

1080i demo via HDMI from a HD generator.

1080i Xbox 360 via component-video.

1920 x 1200 gaming.

Which are the handful? A Dell 32"(presumely they gonna cone out) monitor in the living room looks funny though. As I am running a HTPC the text is quite important. Is text ok with the new 1080p panels? (not in my budget though)

nice screen phil. makes me tempted too. :P

i think price war is now between dell, HP and samsung, so we should see prices falling..

dell's 24 inch is also $1,699 for this offer at the moment..
