Darthfunk Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 While Blu-ray and HD DVD backers have both distanced themselves from a dual-format player, third-party manufacturers like NEC and VidaBox are trying to at least live with the possibility of two high-def DVD formats. VidaBox, which manufactures Media Centers, has announced a Dual HD upgrade for the company's LUX and MAX media centers. In addition to being able to play both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs at their native 1080p high-definition resolution, the new LUX and MAX Dual HD systems will also feature HDCP-compliant outputs for stunning, high-quality video, dual analog & dual HDTV tuners to record up to four TV shows at once, up to AMD 4600+ dual core processors with 8GB of RAM and a 7950GT video card for maximum speed & power, and up to 3,000GB and 3,750 GB of massive, VidaSafe-protected storage on the MAX and LUX, respectively. It seems like a decent stop-gap option, at least until one (or both) of the formats goes belly up. With research expecting media server sales to hit 50 million by 2010, skipping the format war and preparing for the future might be the safest way to go. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=738602 From the way i see it most come early or mid 2007 dual format players should be available. With NEC developing chipset that can read and write on both BR and HD DVD we should definitely see makers coming up with dual format players. http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/nec_develops_chipset_for_bluray_hddvd_recorder.php
