I have been trying hard to get my hands on a copy of this movie. I've checked online retailers and R1 dvd has been out of stock for a long time. Finally they are selling the R4 dvd here.

The movie was banned in SG until recently. For the unflattering potrayal of SG and subject matter. It was submitted for approval using another script, but the actual story is about a pimp who runs a prostitution ring in Singapore. There's not much plot or story development, but the acting is quite decent. The appeal of the movie is that it was shot in Singapore in the late 70s and it's very interesting to see how Singapore looked like then and how Singaporeans spoke.

As one amazon reviewer puts it "The setting of Singapore in the 1970s deserves a mention because it is as much a star of the film as Gazzara. This film was shot without the permission of the Singapore government and is still banned in Singapore for it's not necessarily flattering portrayal of the country. But it is a surprisingly successful attempt to capture the look and feel of Singapore in that lost era - in that transition stage after its days as an exotic colonial outpost visited by the likes of Somerset Maugham but before it cleaned up and catapulted into wealth. For this alone the movie is something of a rare gem, both in craft and content. Singaporeans who lived through the 70s will recognize the remarkable authenticity."

Movie buffs should go check it out!

I got the R1 earlier this year, from an ebay shop I think. Quite depressing movie but old timers like me would appreciate the footage of old Bugis, Telok Kurau, Beach Rd etc  ;D
