Can someone share whats the difference between the 3?

I went to the Pioneer pre launch at suntec and was told that the difference between 1.3 and (1.1 and 1.2) is only in the sound, not the picture.

I was also wondering... If the HDMI connection carries both picture and sound, how can I then connect from a dvdplayer using HDMI to a TV and the sound to my stereo amplifier.

For eg, I am using a component input from the dvdplayer to my TV and the normal stereo (RCA) out to my stereo amplifier. If the HDMI connection carries both sound and picture, how can I 'seperate'the audio and picture signal.

I don't think you're supposed to separate the signals. Some players (I think so) have the ability to disable audio from HDMI (saw this feature in a Philips recorder), and that only helps the user so that he/she need not mute the TV or lower down the volume.

As for audio, you should use digital output (coax/spidif) of your player to your amplifier. I believe you're doing the same right now, only with analogue RCA..

get a HDMI switching receiver, HDMI connection fm DVDP to receiver then u can have a HDMI (video) out to ur TV & use the pre out to send audion to ur stereo amplifier... via analog out.. hmm... errr.. just go woth Mask's suggestion lah...

actually HDMI (video + audio) connection wud be better if u're connecting various sources to the HDMI capable receiver. The receiver can perform the audio function & u can connect the HDMI video out to ur TV & PJ...

I'm puzzled: why are you connecting a dvdp's stereo output to a stereo amp ? Are you saying you are only doing 2 channels for dvd playback ?

In any case, you can still continue to do what you are doing.  HDMI doesn't mean there will be no output from the "normal" RCA jacks, be it in 2 channel or 5.1.

what kzone suggested should be the most "proper" way: get a HDMI capable receiver, and let the receiver split the audio from video.

yes. I am only using 2 channels for my dvd playback.

I see. thanks.  ;)

I take it that you want your video connection to be from DVDP direct to the TV.  If you connect HDMI to HDMI (and your player cannot mute the audio), then you will have to mute the audio on the TV or bring the volume down to zero, as was mentioned by someone else earlier.  However, if your TV has DVI input, believe you can connect the HDMI out from your player to the DVI input on your TV.  This should transmit only the video signal.  You will of course need a cable with the appropriate connectors to do this.

HDMI with sound is made so that you can connect just one cable from your player to the AV amp and the amp will take care of eveything.

For most of us who do not have HDMI sound capable AV Amp, we just do HDMI directly to the display device and then use coaxial or optical connected to the AV amp from the player.

If you DIE DIE want to extract audio from the HDMI line to feed your amp....then use this :-
