tonyhs Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 In a bid to improve my 2 Channel listening I tried connecting my Exposure Pre/Power to my DSP A1 receiver to drive the main channel. It sounds much better but I noticed a hum in the speakers. I tried disconnecting the Exposure from Receiver and power up with the speaker cables still attached to the Exposure and don't hear the hum. Desperately need some advice on what could be the problem and how I can rectify the situation. Will the Hum damage my speakers?
deepakvali Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 sounds like ground loop problem, occurs when 2 equipment are at a different ground potential
varun1624705824 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 sounds like ground loop problem, occurs when 2 equipment are at a different ground potential Also happens when the speakers don't know the lyrics... - V.
SiriuslyCold Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 its also good to know your equipment has some potential ;) tonyhs - check out >>this thread<< (no its not a song lyrics website ;D )
tonyhs Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 I tried to research this issue on the Internet and it seems like a possible solution is a Hum Elimiinator or a Ground Loop Isolator. Has anyone used one before and where in Singapore can I buy? Do these devices degrade the sound quality?
synthesis1624705793 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Did you order it Mai Hum?? ;D Anyway.. last time I experienced humming from my subwoofer. The problem solved when I disconnect the earth pin of the sub power plug. You may also try connecting your equipment from different outlet, it may eliminate the hum.
tonyhs Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 I forgot to ask for good sound Mai Hum. Quite a number of the postings in the internet talk about lifting the ground wire but many warn that it is highly dangerous. Trying to avoid this solution if I can.
maxngck Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 huh???? take out the earth wire from the socket? very dangerous leh. if suay suay got leakage then...........................
deepakvali Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 are ur equipment using power from the same power point? if not, try to use the same power point, this will help ensure the ground point is common. using isolators are nothing but some filter capacitors inside and charge you horrible prices
synthesis1624705793 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 You can cheat using 3-to-2 prongs adapter. This way the earth pin won't be in contact with the earth from the wall outlet. This what I read from the net long ago. For me it was ok leh back then....
tonyhs Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 The equipment are connected to the same power point.
