Saint Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Hi, currently i own a Tannoy set for HT with Klipsch RW10 sub. Specs as follows: 2 x Tannoy m2.5 bookshelf 1 x Tannoy mc 2 x JMlab as surround 1 x Klipsch RW10 Was trying to play some trance/techno on this set of mine, the sound doesn't sounds good at all... Could anyone recommend me a set of speakers to go with my sub? My budget is <$1000 excluding sub.. possible? I'm mainly into movies, trance and techno.. Are Klipsch speakers good for trance/techno music? Many thanks in advance..

2100 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Hey, I am into a wee bit of trance too (nothing much, just the usual Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten and compilations like Ajunabeats normal stuff you find at HMV/Grammaphone). I think first things first, what do you not like about your system? I think with a 10" sub it should be ok. Tannoy M2 too bright?
Saint Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 hi great to see another trance fan... tannoy doesn't sound bright instead.. it juz doesn't sound right... i dunno how to describe it.. what speakers are u using now? Hi, haha...using a speaker which probably wouldn't sound right for Trance also. If you have been hearing Trance at pubs/clubs, is that what you are after? You want more zing and "in your face" feeling? Or do you like to listen to trance at very loud levels? What is the loudness level you usually listen at? What is your current amp? The bass must have more "hit in your chest" feeling? I don't think its the bass right, the RW-10 is pretty ok and not those lower end for HT.
Saint Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 i prefer the in your face feeling.. heart thumping feel... currenly using Pammy XR10.. i normally turn to it ard -28db Hi, haha...using a speaker which probably wouldn't sound right for Trance also. Choose something more sensitive for the speaker and the amp must pump out more "cleaner" and quality power. I know the XR10 probably has impressive specs on wattage and stuff, but......it will be a long story. Can go for a digital amp, but choose something better? The sub can stay, its good enough. Play with placement, else there will be midbass overhangs with regular HDB rooms. You wouldn't want that, the bass beats will sound bloated and slow. Its better that you switch to a floorstander to help out with the midbass, choose something at least 90dB/m/W efficiency. If the speaker is 4 ohms, you will definitely need a very good amp. Do you mind JBL? ;D
Saint Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 JBL I wun mind lah.. but must stay within 1k... u reckon if it is possible? any particular model? Then its both the amp and speakers. 2100 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 JBL I wun mind lah.. but must stay within 1k... u reckon if it is possible? any particular model? 1k is definitely possible, for speakers alone. :D The well known Infinity Primus 360! Sensitive enough so that your Panny wouldn't break a sweat, that is one of the main ways to go so that you can maintain the sound quality. 8 ohms, 93dB/m/w eff, won't go wrong. Check it out at Audio House, it is about $600 incld delivery. I know Audio House may not sound that high-end, but do give it a listen first.
Saint Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 $600 for 5 speakers? ;D 1k is definitely possible, for speakers alone. :D The well known Infinity Primus 360! basspundit Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Maybe this is the lack of punch thingie that many people noted with setups that are 'flat' i.e without any bumps in the FR of the speakers or the source? Maybe you can borrow a multi-band equalizer and up the freq in the 'punch' zone and see how it holds up? Much cheaper if it works....or do you just want brand new spanking shiny speakers? :)
2100 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 $600 for 5 speakers? ;D Wah lao, the rear and center no need to change lar. Anyway they also have the Primus 160 bookshelves and I guess Center also, so perhaps 1.1K or thereabouts? Definitely possible!

2100 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 what is your setup 2100? Umm...it's definitely not suited for Trance and stuff like that. :'( Speakers is Adagio from Acoustic Zen http://www.responseaudio.com/adagio.htm Amp is Qinpu. http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue27/qinpu_8000.htm Subwoofer ASW-210, similar to this just that the drivers are gold coloured. http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products/sub_woofers/series/FB210.htm And a simple tubed headphone setup for special occasions
