SiriuslyCold Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 It's the new Iron Maiden album, duh!! ;D GREAT songs, to me... since oh.. Powerslave ok, so I'm old :P but I really didn't like most of the stuff after Powerslave unfortunately the recording's compressed to heck :(
InnocentBlood Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 i'm looking for the version that comes with a bonus dvd - anybody seen it around?
batdance Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 i'm looking for the version that comes with a bonus dvd - anybody seen it around? Saw it at MJ Causeway Point.
InnocentBlood Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Saw it at MJ Causeway Point. that's great news man! the Tampines outlet didn't have it and what's worse, the girl behind the counter said they didn't have it listed in their database! i wouldn't mind travelling to woodlands just to pick it up :)
InnocentBlood Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 i don't think this is available @ MJ causeway pt any longer :'( if anybody sees it elsewhere, please post here, thank u.
batdance Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 so fast ah, last week i still see around 10+ copies.
InnocentBlood Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 there must be a lot of Iron Maiden fans in the woodlands area ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 maybe some Mats Rock (proper pluralisation) from JB as well ;D
InnocentBlood Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 finally got my copy @ MJ Tampines :)
InnocentBlood Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 how's the DVD? i just picked it up today during lunchtime. wil try and check it out tonight.
InnocentBlood Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 how's the DVD? i briefly scanned thru the dvd this morning and this is what i found: pic gallery with the music playing in the background; pics mostly taken in the studio. 2 music videos for Benjamin Breeg and Different World – consisting mostly of studio footage. These 2 videos were also featueed on the official iron maiden webasite I think prior to the album’s release. And then you get a making of documentary featuring the band and their producer in the studio making the album – pretty cool stuff and would greatly appeal to the fan :) Here’s some more info on what’s on the bonus dvd: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Matter_of_Life_and_Death_(album)
SiriuslyCold Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 thanks! sounds cool I'll grab mine later
InnocentBlood Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 thanks! sounds cool I'll grab mine later good for you! ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 That acoustic TUSH session rocked! ;D seems they recorded 3 other cover versions (incl Space Trucking) apparently there's no mastering on this album (that killed the sound on DoD) but its still recorded loud and sounds compressed (compared maybe to other more "open" recordings)
steelben Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Hey, looks like we have some Maiden fans in this forum, nice :D. Are you people real Heavy Metal fans or just casual listeners? I briefly heard the new Maiden album at Roxy Records but it did not grab me. Even their previous release Dance of Death is just so so in my humble opinion. Perhaps Brave New World is the better album after the return of B.Dickinson.
SiriuslyCold Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 I don't think you can casually listen to heavy metal!! (try to conjure up an image of someone in lounging back and tapping their feet - furiously- to Maiden) ;D seriously though - I think i'm rather picky I only love Maiden, Queensryche and maybe a couple of other bands (which long ago included Judas Priest, Motorhead, Helloween) not heavy metal as a genre in general I think prog rock is more my kinda music (Led Zep, Floyd, Yes, Rush, DT)
steelben Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Ha, I just thought I could made some Metal friends in this forum ;D. Anyway, if you wanna hear some good Heavy Metal music, you need to explore further (of course that will take up a lot of your time, effort and $$$). Sadly, there ain't many record stores in Singapore that really carry good Metal music. Roxy records used to be quite a good place where I used to get my Metal fix from but nowadays they just turn towards a commerical direction. But then again, the whole Metal scene has also gone trendy since years ago.
InnocentBlood Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 if i'm not mistaken, there's a shop in Peninsular Plaza, on the ground floor, that specialises in such stuff. this shop was also the distributor for Megadeth's last studio album, i think. i've been there once and they have a pretty good range of interesting stuff but they are all kinda expensive. i hope the shop is still there :) by the way, if you are into Iron Maiden, then Iced Earth will surely appeal to you. What about Trivium? Any of you guys into that?
steelben Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Ah yes, the shop is called Clairvoyant. It’s still there but has just moved a few doors away from the original location. I’ve been to that shop a few times. They do carry “a lot of” (I use the words here loosely) Metal stuff. However, I don’t wanna further give comments about the shop because I don’t want to sound too arrogant. Maybe I would simply put it this way: the shop caters only for amateurs. Roxy records (Excelsior SC 2nd floor) used to be a good place for the most discerning Metal (music) fans. Nowadays it seems to me like they are too careful with the selections. Maybe they want to have fast turnover so they bring in those good-selling stuff. However, there are still some good Metal gems buried in their stock. Some examples (titles below could have been sold out by now): LORDIAN GUARD s/t CD (Christian Metal with the legendary guitarist from WARLORD. CD is on German Hellion Records) SORTLIEGE / EVIL split CD (SORTLIGE is a killer French Heavy Metal) LEATHERWOLF 80s’ debut s/t CD album QUARTZ Stand up and Fight CD (NWOBHM originally on LP, CD is on Majestic Rock records) MASTER’S HAMMER CD (underground Metal from Czech Republic. Too bad the copy is a cheap US pressing) TYGERS of PAN TANG debut CD album (Classic NWOBHM 1st time on CD, the copy is a Japanese pressing. This copy is highly sought after in the market. One of their CD albums Japan pressing was last seen changed hands for over 100USD on an auction site! Some Metal freak from Italy won the CD.) You don’t find these CDs elsewhere in Singapore. Of course, Roxy is still not everything when come to Metal. But at least they are a lot better than those so-called ‘music’ stores in Singapore. Very friendly staff over there but they are not Metal fans. Just I thought I could spread some nice words for them since I’ve been seeing them struggling with bad business in recent years. Their stuff can be expensive sometimes but this is a shop for true music fans. Back to Maiden, for people who dig Maiden I would recommend ARIA (http://www.aria.ru/). People called them “Russian’s answer to IRON MAIDEN”. Yes the band is from Russia and all songs are sung in Russian. You don’t look for innovation or originality in their music because they are like carbon-copy of IRON MAIDEN (except the vocals). Musical pleasure is what you will get from their albums. The only problem is their albums are very hard to come by not to mention they are always expensive even if you find them. There are many bootlegs flowing around too. Once a bootlegger from Russia told me if I found the CDs on internet selling below 20USD, they are all likely home-made bootleg copies. And about Trivium, sorry, only heard of them, never heard them… :-\
InnocentBlood Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 the band is so proud of their latest work that they've been playing the ENTIRE album, back to front, during their current tour. anybody had a chance to listen to these shows from online sources perhaps? ;)
