Can someone please tell me why dual layer DVD-Rs are so much more expensive than single layered 4.7gb discs since its capacity is less than double of single layer discs?

Did you know that the Single layer DVD-R cost about $6 a pcs when I first use it, now a good brand DVD-R is only .90cts

.

Also VHS Tapes 2 hrs cost $27 a pc when it first hit the market- current it is less than $2/-

The simple calculator which cost about $10/-, costs about $400/- when it first appears in singapore

Every time some new inventions hits the market the company will tries to recover its cost (research-, molds, materials, patient copyrights etc.) as fast as possible before everybody else jumps on the bandwagon.

When this happens I'm sure we will be able to get cheaper stuff, so you have to wait....

For that matter, DVD players were $1,500 when first released, today you can get a basic one for about $50...

42" plasmas were $16,000 (or was it $25,000, or is that the 50") on release, today even the top brands are below $5,000 and cheapo non-HD plasmas below $3,000.

I had my DL writer for at least a year but have yet to burn a DL disc ...

Since a SL disc is much much cheaper than a DL, I suggest split it to 2 SL more worth it ...

Unless there's really a need to burn on a DL ...

My Nero cant seem to do that leh..  :(

What do U wanna burn?

Why U can't burn some of your your files on one disc and the rest of the files on another disc?

If you're going to burn a DVD backup at full quality it will usually require more space than a single layer DVD. While it's possible to split it, it's not trivial - and who wants to swop disks in the middle of a movie?

Ahh ... in this case I'll need to decide between cost or effort ...

If it's effort then just burn it on a DL and pay for the cost ...

If it's cost, I'll consider split it to 2 SL (better than nothing),

at most some yrs later when prices of DL drops much much

lower then convert the SLx2 to DL ...  ;D

Prices are dropping very slowly... a good 10 pc pack now costs US$20 from Amazon... consider a very good price...

May need to try 1 pc soon to burn Desray's upcoming HT Demo Disc in D9...

Will be first time burning in DL... hope no coaster or else heart pain...  ;D
