stan79 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hi guys I just got my samsung LA32R71 and my samsung DVD-HR735 and i'm connecting them via HDMI connection. Is there any way I can tell if watching dvd that my PQ has been upscaled? Even if it has been upscaled what resolution is it in? 720p or 1080i? ???
zas3 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hi, I presume u already set the upscaled resolution in the dvdp setup menu. Not sure exactly how since I dont have that particular player. Then on your TV remote press the Info button and it'll show you the resolution of the player output based on your setting, either 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080i (1080i).
stan79 Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 In sg samsung website, it claims that HR735 able to upscale to 720p/1080i but no matter how I tried using component or HDMI, I'm only able to upscale to 576p ??? so i went to check this model from samsung website again for the specs, it's gone. >:( think i was coned by samsung. juz check my manual n it says component and HDMI only 576p.
htfreak Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Unfortunately the 735 is not equipped with upscaling capabilities. There is supposedly a 745 model which has that ability but I don't think Samsung is bringing that model in. So far, there are only a few HDMI equipped DVD recorders that has the upscaling feature. One of these is the newly released Panasonic EH-65 model and the others being the elusive Philips DVDR-9000 and the top-end LG model.

Just saw the elusive Philips DVDR-9000 selling at Harvey Norman Funan Centre for $1,799 ! :o

File your complain now if you think you are fool by the Web info. It is still around. http://www.samsung.com/sg/products/dvdplayer/dvdrecorder/dvd_hr735.asp Malaysia Web states similar upscaling http://www.3dotevents.com/main.php?section=column&page=column&id=20 http://www.samsung.com/my/products/dvdplayer/dvdplayer/dvd_hr735.asp Others http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/GENNA/261/341/-/930044/Samsung_DVD_HR735_DVD_160GB_HDD_Recorder/Product.html?searchtype=genre However in the manual page 10, it states clearly that it only supports 576p. HDMI reduces picture noise by allowing a pure digital video/audio signal path from the HDD & DVD RECORDER to your TV. This HDD & DVD RECORDER only supports 576p.
