volumous Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 hi all, is it worth paying 4K for an AV recv that has THX, DTS, Dolby Pro stickered all over? thks.
SiriuslyCold Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 if the stickers are all that's holding it together, probably not.
volumous Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 to be precise...marantz 9600 and the pioneer vsx915S. are the diff cinematic effect that apparent? or will any 7.1 channel AV receiver do? thks.
SiriuslyCold Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 i'm not even sure those two are in the same price range (to compare) the 9600 I would think belongs in the AX4/5i price range? the higher range probably has better componentry and would sound better; most people do not use the cinematic effects unless the source is in 2.0 - even then PLIIx does far better than the normal DSP modes of the receivers.
volumous Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 oops my apologies. so what digital AV do we have here in spore that will power a 7.1 channel set-up? and the power rating? thks
petetherock Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hi bro I assume you mean a digital AV amplifier? Thats a different beast from the Marantz 9600 altogether a few people in this forum have mentioned Panasonic, and thats much cheaper than the audiophile grade big ticket items like the Marantz 9600 (which may even have less trickery features), the Denon 4XXX or Yamaha 2XXX series items. The Pioneer 915 is a more more basic AV amp with lower power ratings and sound quality than the SR 9600, but you need to see if you can tell the difference when you audition them Any of the above and many other brands can drive 7.1 channels, so IMHO, figuring out your budget is most important, how big a room (THX items especially the THX Ultra ones can drive much bigger rooms even though the printed power ratings are similar to the cheaper ones) and what speakers you wish to use? Good luck P
