htfreak Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Just got some inside news that Pioneer will be showcasing a number of new stuff at their booth during the upcoming ISS show. First up will be the new Pioneer Full HD 50" panel which will be hooked up to the Pioneer BluRay player. Other goodies include a new range of DVD Recorders with HDMI output capability. Lastly, the new Pioneer 437/507 range of Plasma screens may also make its appearance during the show. Will try to confirm with another source that the info I got is accurate as it will be worth my $10 if this is indeed true.

Phil1624705739 Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Just to add. There is a 50-50 chance that e 50-incher will not be able to make it due to an unfortunate development. Phil
f_spider Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Managed to catch its introduction @ KL's AV show............ It was awesome to say the least ( the pioneer PRC gals too) 8)
Chowbotak Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I didnt find it that awesome, mate. They were using a prototype HD player
f_spider Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I guess the gals looked were darn too distracting good............ Maybe thats d very reason why they were there in d 1st place....... to enhance the product ;D
htfreak Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Based on today's article in LIFE, it looks like the Pioneer 5000EX made it after all for an earth shattering promo price of S$16,999 only. I guess they must have a whole line of people queing up tomorrow to place order for this unit. With this unit selling in Japan for 753,000 yen which translates to S$10.3k. It must really take that huge logistical effort to charge that small S$6.5k premium to transport the set here. The same sentiment goes for all the other Jap based mfg's that charge "VERY DOWN TO EARTH" prices for their 50" panels.
varun1624705824 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 <snip> I guess they must have a whole line of people queing up tomorrow to place order for this unit. <snip> ;-) - V.
Jason Yeo Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Saw 2 pio BD black(110V) Elite players,yummy.... ;D
htfreak Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Wonder if they will entertain me if I bring my HD-DVD player down and tell them that I want to see the picture output on their 5000EX panel before deciding. ;D
Jason Yeo Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 You can try. Maybe some of the salesman/engineers there also want to see side by side comparison ;)
htfreak Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 You can bring your spare one along so that when people see that it trounces their Bluray player output, you can hold an auction to sell it to the highest bidder and yet still be half the price of the Bluray player. ;D
Jason Yeo Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Still on the way only . And I am not the one holding 2 . It is bro muscular27 ;D
Phil1624705739 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Just back from the 5000EX launch. Must say it's very sharp.. even up close. It also comes with ISF C3 which basically enables extensive calibration with hidden advanced setting. But at 16K, its definitely for the well-heeled. Phil
htfreak Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Phil, in comparison with Audio's Ruby, which visual output quality do you prefer disregarding the screen size.

They are of different league Jeff. You can't install a Ruby in your living room without going through the hassle of light management. In terms of PQ, it's a tough call. I would rather bring in a set for review before making a comment. Too bad Pio has to return the BDP-H1 back to Japan. Would any of you guys consider loaning a HD-DVD player for testing? Free flow of coke on CNET Asia. Phil
SiriuslyCold Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 wow if someone could (loan Phil a tosh HD player) it'd give us all an opportunity ;)
TYF Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 btw, does anyone knows whether we can take photos at ISS? ;D
enthusiast1624705824 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 any blu-ray movies that will be showcased at the Pioneer booth? I'm excited, hope it's not some BS scenery

Phil Aiyah, I defintely know that light mgmt is defintely one of the considerations one would have to factor in for projector use. My question was based on the assumption that if both display devices were optimally setup, which would be better in PQ but I guess we will not be able to find out in the short term. BTW, are you saying that Pioneer is loaning you the 5000EX for testing in your labs? I would bet that C722 would be one of the first in line for the 5000EX. ;D

I don't have a problem securing a 5000EX for review but it's the 1080p player and software that are the bottleneck here. You wanna volunteer your Tosh? Phil
htfreak Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Aiyoh.. why you have to make things so complicated. Must be a defect that comes with the job. ;D What happened to your Sammy BD player?
