cobi Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hi all, need your professional advise and experience... I was wondering if 14m long speaker cable will affect the sound as compared to 3m speaker cable. I'm using a 100w int amp. I'm planning to put the speakers in front of my living room while the hifi unit just beside my sofa (due to shortage of space near the speaker area). Thanks, Ray
bolts1624705732 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 No problems. For example, unshielded twisted pair cables (UTP Cat 5) are rated to carry data signals at no loss at 100megabits/sec over a distance of 100meters. Good speaker cables have no problems at this kind of short distance. Just don't route the cables past any noisy electronics.
media2368 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I suggest you use a thicker cable (12 AWG) for such a long run. :)
synthesis1624705793 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I suggest you use a thicker cable (12 AWG) for such a long run. :) ya, 14 AWG or thicker should be good enough. The higher resistance due to the length is compensated by thicker diameter to lower the resistance.

hyper1624705763 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm Read this to get an idea. It also depends on the load between your speakers and amp.
