Guest wcseow Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 hi My setup Pioneer DVD 667 ---component--- Yammy 2600 --HDMI--Toshiba 47WL66. Watch Seven Swords and InitialD. Notice the PQ on Toshiba was not great, can see the little rectangles quite clearly.... What could be the problem -- appreciate some advise What I have tried without improvement a. Disable upscaling b. enable exact scan Did not try component direct to TV as the 47WL66 is too heavy to bring it down as I have it on wall mount thanks

mlwang Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 If you want cheap and good solution, try Toshiba HDMI DVD player SD-350E, can get as low as $199. Can upscale the 1080i. or wait for the SD-360E.
vink Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 "SD-360E " Above model is for the european market. The equavalent model for asia is SD-770SR. Both looked identical physically and the specifications too. Selling for $299 in Courts or HN if I remember right. vk
pschia Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I think OPPO 870 is the best value for money. For $299, you get SACD playback as well as a built-in card reader. Both DTS and SACD can be played back through the HDMI and the audio quality is superb, comparable to a high-end CD player.

Guest wcseow Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Hi Got my Oppo today, and with my old Pioneer stll connected via component, it gives me the opportunity to do a quic compare between the two using the same discs. Oppo is n HDMI Looks like the pixelation(little rect) appears on both Oppo as well as Pioneer but the PQ from Oppo is better (nicer colors and brightness). Do not know why. This appears to be so only when I play the Initial D disc Using Pirates and Seven Swords, do not see the pixelation at all,but the video quality of the Oppo is clearly better than Pioneer. Probably due to HDMI? ANyway, happy with my Oppo and is considering another purchase for my Games room or MBR.
