htfreak Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Just noticed on Samsung Singapore's website that they will be launching a new S series range of LCD TV's ranging from 27", 32", 37" and 40". Based on the contrast ratio of 3000:1, it looks more like a replacement for the T series than the R series. Native resolution is still 1366 x 768. Hopefully they will launch their Full HD 96 series US equivalent model here soon. Below are some links to the new series :- http://www.samsung.com/sg/products/tv/lcdtv/la40s71b.asp http://www.samsung.com/sg/products/tv/lcdtv/la37s71b.asp
henryhoo Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 S series got 37" and 42" model, as Samsung LCD plants don't produce this kind of sizes, I can safely say that these are not using samsung's own panels. Samsung must have bought those cheapskate panels from taiwanese panel makers to use in this low end series.
Xtra Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Check out the panel build by Samsung... http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/common/product_list.aspx?family_cd=LCD04 And their Procurement from AUO.... http://www.emsnow.com/newsarchives/archivedetails.cfm?ID=12634
htfreak Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 Seems like the S series 32" and 40" models made their debut in Best Denki and Harvey Norman stores over the weekend. The 32" is priced at $2199 while the 40" is priced at $3799. Depending on individual taste, the silver strip adds a nice touch to the design and it was not as reflective as the R series models. Incidentally, Harvey Norman Funan was offering the 40" R71 at $3899 after all the rebates have been factored in.
cracker Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 All the major Jap and Korean brands are buying panels from Taiwanese companies to supplement their own panels factories...Both AUO and Chi Mei are enjoying a sudden boom in their biz.
