Hi

Does anyone on starhub HD trial encounter the same scenario as below?

- connect setup box - projector via component for HD (restriction on cable routing for HDMI and costly)

- not using HDMI output from setup box at the moment

- need an additional component output to another tv to watch tv on daily basis (my case is an LG rear projection tv)

My first instinct is to get a component switch box that provides 1 input and multiple output.

I search high and low at SLS and SLT. Can't find such a switch box.

But there is component splitter which allows 2 inputs and multiple (up to 4 or 5 i think) outputs.

Questions:

1. anyone has any cheap solution for this?

2. will a splitter degrade the quality significantly?

3. if i simply wanna split, does it work if i simple get a Y adaptor for each of the 3 component RCA connections for 2 component cable runs? 1 to proj and 1 to tv?

Thanks in advance for the inputs

I think XBox accessories include a splitter, which might very well be multiple inputs and one output.  I suppose if you find one that is one input, multiple outputs, you could always use it "the other way around" to get multiple inputs and one output, or vice versa.

I have also seen cheapo switches for composite video with stereo audio concurrently, which is of course in effect 3 RCA connections.  But there may be an impedence problem, since component video signals are more sensitive than composite or analog audio.  So take this all with a pinch of salt, and if possible option to return the item after trying it out (I was once given that assurance when buying an RF high-isolation switch -- fortunately it worked all right and I didn't have to return it).

I bought 1 component video splitter (1 -> 4) which costs around $70+ and 1 component video switch (4 -> 1) which costs around $45.  Both can be found in SLS.

quite good quality component splitter (passive) available at UFO Multimedia (green sign) at SLS. 3rd floor I think. Cheap, under S$60 IIRC
