HT-BKK Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Hi all, Getting my TW-600 (720p) projector on Monday and looking for HDMI cable to add to my ceiling mount. All input appreciated, especially places to look for good cable at reasonable prices. I have seen 10 m cables for sale for$95, $195, $395 and $700+. :o Even heard of of one for over $1000 today from a dealer! :o :o I'm aware of issues with these long runs, but want a 'value' cable that will do the job on par with my 'value' projector! I saw an in shop demo that showed HDMI being a sharper 'better' picture than component on the same setup and DVDP. I am leaning towards sticking with my belden component cables unless someone has some good advice! My HTPC is only 5 m away, will cable quality still be as important if I go with that shorter run? Thanks for the help!
zapp1624705742 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I got KEC to provide me with a 15m HDMI cable for my TW600 - so far so good tested out with a Denon 1920 DVDP picture as expected but can see macroblocking :p
HT-BKK Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 I guess no one is doing any experimenting with HDMI? I don't want to invest the money to experiment either! I guess I will look for one in the middle of the range and cross my fingers! provide me with ... If it was thrown in as part of the deal, let me know quick! I will check with them on a price. IIRC it was ~200 for 10 m. That is towards the low side of the range. I wonder if the blocking you are seeing is due to cable issues or quality? Did you try a shorter one at all? The long delay is due to being on Tioman at the beach! ;D Thanks for your response!
basspundit Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I'm using a pure hdmi solution dvdp->hdmi->receiver->hdmi->plasma. I'm using QED cables, runs of 1m + 3m. I have no issues so far for PQ/SQ no noticeable difference between PQ for component, but thats probably due to the short run. Only gripe I have is with the OSD volume bar not showing up from my receiver. Somehow my receiver can't merge the partial screen OSD together with the outgoing hdmi picture, it only works if i bring in the full screen OSD...
HT-BKK Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 As KE* was out of the 10m hdmi cable , i bought the cheap one from SLT basement (Pro Vis Shop) and took it over to test with the Epson tw-600 projector and marantz dvdp. It's a medium thickness cable with the net/mesh covering. K*C guys were pretty sure it won't work cause it's not 24awg (fatter) like their ones. We switched back and forth three times, even with dvd paused. It works fine in comparison with the heavier, shorter 3m cable! ;D I was pleased, they were surprised. I'm keeping the cable! I love it when I'm right and it saves me money! ;) The discussion here in january helped me decide to go for the cheap one. thanks all!

tsammyc Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I just bought a 10m HDMI cable for $160 from SLS. Seems to work perfectly, possibly a little better than my DVI cable.
owm Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 For reference, I bought a 10m HDMI->HDMI cable with DVI->HDMI adapter for S$100 from LHS Electronics, 2nd floor SLT.
