wantan Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Hi all, sorry to ask similar questions again :-[ ,but really know nuts on cables as I'm new to it. Search through the forum but seems alot of recommendations out there and do not know which is compatible to my basic setup ???. Hope the bros out there can give some advice (no need high end type :P) ;D This is my set up with those normal grey colour cables.. Denon 1906 AVR Front - Diamond 9.1 (want to run bi-wire) Centre - Diamond 9.cc Sub - SW 150 Rear - forget abt it as the cables already in built within the false ceiling :-\ many mant tks... 8)
hifi_blues Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I’m not sure what is available in your area but you may want to Try some Kimber Kable 8 pr or Kimber Kable 8 TC. Kimber Kable is a 16 conductor braded wire (8+ 8- ) perfect for Bi wire. One of the big problems with bi wire is making sure that the Wires are the same length. You can find good prices at eaby.com and Audiogon.com Also are these the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1? If so you may want to make sure that you Denon is stable at 6 ohms. HiFi_Blue
Madsumm Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Actually, from the specs, 4TC looks to be a better buy then 8TC. For Kimber, they recommends for bi-wire, 4TC for Mids-Highs and 8TC for Lows. 4TC is around $46 per meter I think and 8TC is around $76 per meter. Rgds
wantan Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 hi, tks for the advice. Will look out for these cables. Tks again. :)
dbchoong Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 If you're on a budget, you can try some Belden speaker cables. Maybe Belden 1810A (biwire) or 1860A. Someone selling some 1810A here... You can get Belden cables from LHS 2nd floor Sim Lim Tower. ;D
zapp1624705742 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Canare 4S11 is also a good bet - warm sounding $5 per meter at LHS...using it for my bedroom monitor audio speakers paired with a hybrid Dared MP5
synthesis1624705793 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 There's no point buying wire that probably costs more that the speaker itself. You may just get inexpensive 16 or 14 awg size wire and it should work fine for your speaker.
ongus Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Cant agree more with synthesis. Belden 1810A or Canare 4S11 or the slightly smaller 4S8 should do the thick. Personally, I think Kimber 4TC and 8TC sound terrible - music sounds hollow (no body, just the voice) and there is no focus like it is disintegrating.
kzone Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Yeah, 2 runs of 4S11 for biwire wud be nice.... Anyone tried twisting 2 runs of the 4S11 then put it in a sleeve so it'll look like one of those garden hose speaker cables? Or is twisting bad for SC?
hifiluv Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Canare 4S11 is also a good bet - warm sounding $5 per meter at LHS...using it for my bedroom monitor audio speakers paired with a hybrid Dared MP5 if u like a faster sound or on the bright side, Belden 8473 14AWG, $3/mtr also from LHS, cheap n decently good, found tis more suited for HT. for music, my choice is still the Canare 4S11, gives a full body sound :)
wantan Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 hi all, tks for the great inputs and info. Now i have the direction to go for which type of cables. Appreciated alot! :D
varun1624705824 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Before you go, here's another one for the road: I use the 5-star rated Mordaunt Short Genie set (about 2 grand, if I remember correctly) with a Denon 3805 amp. A wee bit higher up the price scale than your very good setup. And the cables I was recommended by KEC: their standard fairly el-cheapo shielded cable @ around $1 per metre. I told them, I said, "hey guys, how about I buy about 30 metres of this here nice QED Silver Anniversary XT cable @ about 11 - 12 per metre?" Their reply, "with your setup, you won't notice the difference, trust us". They ADVISED me NOT to buy MORE EXPENSIVE cable from THEM for a setup that's a darn sight more expensive. The point? Seek their advice. You may be throwing money at something our equipment (yours and mine and possibly that of a lot of folks here) can't leverage. - V. hi all, tks for the great inputs and info.
