This is where confusion starts. I have some questions. 1. LCD TV have progressive scan? 2. HDMI also need progrssive scan? 3. Upscaling to HD...when doing so does progressive scan still work?

I don't understand why there should be any confusion since all 3 HDMI dydplayers you listed has progressive scan in the first place. How does answering these questions help you choose between them?
MichaelTan Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 All LCD TV is drawing progressively on the screen, at least, entire FRAME draw at once. HDMI can transmit in progressive or interlaced (1080i only) but whether interlaced or progressive, LCD TV will convert to progressive at last stage. Most Upscalers have a range of outputs possible, you can choose. Whatever the upscaler output, LCD TV will convert to progressive at last stage. I am planning to get the follow: 1. LG 32LC2R 2. I have always known that LCD displays are intrinsically progressive. What I don't understand is why is it that if a dvdplayer is set to progressive scan, the PQ on the LCD display is so much better than if the dvdplayer's progressive scan mode is turned off. Does the LCD display 'pretend' to be interlaced and deliberately give a poorer PQ when it detect an incoming interlaced signal ? Or is it that the deinterlacer of the LCD display is so very much more inferior to that of the dvdplayer. If so, this would be hard to accept in those LCD TVs costing thousand of $.

I think, if you experience better PQ when the DVD is set to progressive, it means that the Deinterlacer and scaler on the DVD is better than that on the LCD. As I mention in my blog, especially in today's HD looming close, it is important to have a good deinterlacer and scaler on the LCD.
