Hi,

Just got myself a Epson TW600 and I been watching quite a lot of WC matches with it but only 3 movies ( can't help because not enough time leh  :( ). But I prefer to watch it in the 4:3 mode rather than the wide mode which don't look so natural.

My screen size is 80" X 60" and when viewing 4:3 WC programme I will just zoom out to fill the whole screen, I can say the the result is better than expected  considering the signal feeding thru my SCV digital settop is via composite to the pj. But will this leave any permanent line marking of the left and right vertical bar on the pj if I watch too much materials in 4:3 mode as oppose to the native 16:9?

I think for those guys in the SCV HDTV trial I can imagine your WC experience will be truly amazing one. As for me I am very satisfied already only wish is that the picture were sharper and a little less artifact.

Thanks. :)

i got the chance to see WC Japan vs Croatia match last nite on my TW600...my gosh its quite amazing for a composite output...4:3 should be fine only thing is why? The squeeze aspect ratio is quite ok imo the pple do not look that distorted...

Heheh.. just got my TW600 on June 8th itself and paired it up with my Starhub HD-Trial box.  Have already clocked more than 100 hours since watching World Cup matches and HD-DVD movies since.  After waiting for years for HD broadcast to be a reality here, the experience is truly exhilarating.  In fact, I find the brighter TW600 to be an advantage in which I am able to watch the game with the bedroom lighting on so that I do not have to fumble around the dark looking for my keropok, chips, groundnuts and drinks.  ;D  You get the idea.

P.s. Would any of you be interested in a D4 to Component adapter cable to use on your TW600?

I use my projector for TV and movies. Watching the World Cup is fantastic as are other sports, documentaries, MTV etc. If you are happy with the composite output that's great. However, I found that the improvement of taking the composite through my DVD recorder and using the component out was very good. If you know someone who has such a beast you may want to borrow it and see how it goes.

Agreed about the HDTV trial, it would be quite something. I signed up but didn't hear anything back :(. I passed the URL on to a colleague at work and he got accepted! It probably didn't help my cause with an old 4:3 projector, but I did note that I would buy a new one for the trial! ;)

At first I was quite worry about the quality of SD material but when I watch the WC my jaw drop!

Going for 4:3 because I can have a bigger image on screen ( woo that's 100"  :o) the picture was not so smooth when the tv camera was zoom out to cover more scene but when zoom in on the player the picture were good. So I guess buying a 4:3 screen was not a bad idea afterall, I only lose the top black border when watching 16:9 material but then there are alot of films in wider aspect ratio than 16:9 so this problem also persist in a wide screen.

I find myself fiddling with the zoom alot, when watching 4:3 zoom to the max. while for 16:9 zoom to almost min. How I wish there is a motorised zoom lens built in. ;D

Thanks.

I am watching it in my hall with no lights with Theater Black 2 setting the picture is definitely bright enough, also it did light up my hall quite a lot maybe because of the huge size unlike when watching movies in general. Yes watching with the lights on is also good with the higher output setting.

Less than 2 weeks and 100 hours I think you must have really enjoy your pj very much. BTW what is the D4 to component adapter, are you referring to the input B?

Thanks

Perhaps I'm not reading this correctly, but (assuming you're not watching HD) 4:3 is the native aspect ratio for the normal broadcast, so there should be no aspect ratio problem.

Just done some travelling and saw bits of games on different plasma screens in various airports, and I must say I found the stretching quite bad. In the absence of HD, I prefer watching in 4:3 from the PJ and am very happy I got a 4:3 screen, like howk798.

Input B is actually the VGA one.  There is one more component input labeled as D4/Scart on the TW600.  I have found one US site which may have such an adaptor but I need to call them up to see if they are willing to sell it by itself instead of having to bundle with another device.  The adaptor costs US$8 each with the shipping unknown at this point.  Was thinking that we can get together and save on the shipping.  Actually they have another option which is a 5m D4 to Component cable which they are selling for US$35 each which I find it to be a bit expensive.  So can I count yourself and zapp into this MO.

I think you have to leave me out because firstly I don't have so many source to connect to and another thing is I had my wiring already run with only one each of hdmi, component and composite. Infact my ulitimate connection are only 2, dvd to hdmi and av amp to component, all other sources will be connect to the av amp and switching from there as it can even convert composite and s-video signal to component output signal to the pj.

Thanks.
