petetherock Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Hi I saw a few articles from other forums, that seem to indicate these are identical machines inside, can anyone confirm this please? I was originaly looking at the CA DVD89 when I notice some people saying get the oppo instead. Also is there anywhere in SG to get these - I know CA is available here. And if anyone has prices? Thanks P
htfreak Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Only way to get the Oppo is through Amazon.com for now via VpostUSA. The mfg does sell them through their own website but due to reasons of fraud, they have banned Singaporeans from buying direct.
avfan Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 BBK is parent company of Oppo, that's why their products are so identical. So instead of buying Oppo from amazon and paying ridiculously high shipping rate, you can buy BBK from Hong Kong and pay a much lower shipping rate. BBK-985S is equipvalent to Oppo 971H but is no longer available in Hong Kong. BBK-988 is the equipvalent of the new Oppo 970HD. I manage to get one forumer in HWZ to get one for me and it cost HK$840 or S$180. With this price, the player is a steal.
SiriuslyCold Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Is this the Oppo that converts SACD to PCM before putting it on the HDMI cable
petetherock Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 $180? wow thats fantastic! Considering the CA DV89 costs at least $450 Can you elaborate on how to go about getting one please? One thing though, I notice it doesnt do MP3 - no a big deal but just checking P
darrenowl Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 er...any website for the BKK player?..try searching but could find any trace...pls advise, thanks. The Oppo looks good on spec though. :) Regards
SiriuslyCold Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 there is a http://www.bbk.com.hk/ but the new player isn't even on it yet pete - the DV89 (and I suppose all of them) have a handset hack described on Avforums to fixthe MP3 playability edit: http://www.bbk.com.hk/
darrenowl Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 there is a http://www.bkk.com.hk/ but the new player isn't even on it yet Thanks again :)
petetherock Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Thanks, this is very exciting, but we gotta find a local place to get it! Just think of the mark up for the CA brand!
SiriuslyCold Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 unfortunately (for me) it seems like CA is the only one with a RGB scart
petetherock Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 SCART - no worries! get a SCART to component cable and save the huge mark up!
SiriuslyCold Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 my TV is RGB scart :-\ is there a component -> SCART RGB i thought it needed some (costly) electronics and conversion
avfan Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 there is a http://www.bkk.com.hk/ but the new player isn't even on it yet pete - the DV89 (and I suppose all of them) have a handset hack described on Avforums to fixthe MP3 playability The BBK-988 was shown on the website but was taken off when Oppo launched the DV-970HD. There are shops in Hong Kong that do delivery overseas. I was very fortunate as one forumer from HWZ helped me to bring in the set and save me the shipping charge. And yes, this is the player that converts SACD to PCM before putting it on the HDMI cable
zapp1624705742 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Hmm any idea which sites have the player for delivery to SG?
petetherock Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 So no one in SG carries it? :'( As for the cable, I go to Hean Lee Radio in Jln Besar Plaza and get it (bought one for a friend before- no complaints) Next to it BTW, is a big shop which sells all kinds of wires etc Peter
SiriuslyCold Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 And yes, this is the player that converts SACD to PCM before putting it on the HDMI cable I suppose if they had HDMI 1.2 implemented it would carry multichannel DSD ~ and you would need a receiver with 1) HDMI 1.2 and 2) onboard DSD decoders
avfan Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Hmm any idea which sites have the player for delivery to SG? ework Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Pardon me for asking, can this BBK 988 model do upscaling like the Oppo? I can't seems to find this feature on it's spec http://www.bbk.com.hk/ProInfoP.aspx?ProID=55
avfan Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 The following link will answer your question: http://www.oppodigital.com/dv970hd/dv970hd_image.html You can see that 970HD comes in two flavours, one in all silver and the other silver with black front. Mine was all silver, which I feel looks better.
ework Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Thks to avfan for the link. So it's confirm it can do upscaling have you try if it works? Anyway If anyone here is interested to order one maybe i can join you to share the shipment fee ;D Just look at it's spec and its HDMI is HDCP enable and component output for CSS-encrypted DVD discs (almost all commercially pressed DVD discs) is limited to 480i/480p only :'(
pschia Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Just look at it's spec and its HDMI is HDCP enable and component output for CSS-encrypted DVD discs (almost all commercially pressed DVD discs) is limited to 480i/480p only :'( So that means that upscaling is only available through HDMI and not available through component video?
ework Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Yah lor, i believe all player with HDMI(HDCP) will not allow compoent upscaling :P. Anyway this play do not have DCDI too :-\ .
avfan Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Thks to avfan for the link. So it's confirm it can do upscaling have you try if it works? My lcd tv (Samsung R71) is not HDCP compliant but is able to show both video and audio properly.
hotbird Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Check Echoloft's marketplace ad at http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/buysell/YaBB.cgi?board=hifi&action=display&num=1150870419 ;D
mathew1624705826 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Hi, how does this compare to the Shinco 3150? Is it as able as Shinco to play all discs? Picture quality better? Shinco has HDMI upscaling as well.... Thanks...
