Ken.Ishiwata Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Hi All, I'm currently contemplating on purchasing this particular LCD TV from Prima for Cable, DVDs & Gaming: http://www.primaamerica.com/caLC32R25.asp I would like to gather from the forumers out there who own or have opinions on this particular LCD TV? I have personally viewed the panel around my neighbourhood and i find the colors not as vibrant as an AMOI Advent Series LCD TV at BIG. But the price of the Prima is very attractive and meets my budget. 32" would be perfect for my room. 37" would be an overkill. Some questions I hope you could help me with which the sales assitant couldnt answer: 1. Are there any issues with the 2 year warranty? Claiming the warranty? 2. Has anyone had problems with the TV yet? 3. How many dead pixels before i could change my panel? 4. Any discrepencies with the online specifications that were listed? 5. Is it worth getting? Also, some technical questions which I have searched for in the forum but still couldnt really understand: 6. The panel is able to display 1080i, but the screen resolution would only be 1366 * 768. So how could the 1080 interlaced vertical lines be displayed on 768 pixels vertically? Am i making any sense here? Pardon me for my ignorance. 7. Secondly, i would be connecting my LCD TV to my HTPC through DVI-HDMI. Now, would I be able to upscale the resolution to 1920 x 1280? On paper, only the 37" supports the native resolution of 1920 x 1280. And i using the right terms here? 8. Lastly, 720p or 1080i? I read up that 720p would be better for sporting channels due to its progressive nature? So meaning to say 1080i = 540p due to its interlaced nature? Then wouldnt 720p be superior in terms of quality? And i do understand that 1080p would be the best but due to the high bandwidth it would require to transmit, 1080p would not be feasible at this point of time in terms of HDTV? Please advise. I'm utterly confused! I sincerely hope forumers out there could solve my queries. A Big Thank You in advance!
Norman_Chan Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 So how much is the set > No price mentioned leh ....
Ken.Ishiwata Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 1. Prima is fairly new here. Claiming warranty is probably just like any other companies. 2. Not sure how to respond. 3. If you make enuff noise, one dead pixel also can change. 4. Your link is the US specs. Refer to the HK specs. Singapore only has LC-32W25S. 5. For that price, YES! 6 - 8. Will check on this. 9. I have one brand new unit for sale. Interested? ;D AT, The model I viewed was indeed the LC-32R25 which my link showed. The picture is different from the one posted in your ad. ;)
Ken.Ishiwata Posted June 15, 2006 Author Posted June 15, 2006 So how much is the set > No price mentioned leh .... Norman, the price listed at the shop would be at $1599. I did some bargaining and brought the price down by quite a bit! Trust me, it was substantial enough! It wouldnt be nice to be revealing the bargained price which the shop owner kindly requested me not to do so. I dont have their name card with me. The next time i were to drop by, I'll post their address. Cheers!
chualcsg Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Worth to buy: Amoi 37" 1920x1080 Amoi 40" 1366x768 Prima 37" 1920x1080 or any model using Sharp panel (eg. Shinco) or Samsung panel
Norman_Chan Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 OIC ...Prima 37" LCD TV also 1920 x 1080 ? Any idea how much is the retail price ?
pschia Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 For me, Hitachi IPS panels are much better than Sharp or Samsung panels. IPS panels are hard panels while the others are soft panels and therefore more prone to damage or scratches. Also, IPS panels have 178 deg viewing angle and the colours do not fade in intensity as you move from 90 deg (perpendicular to the screen) to 0 deg unlike soft panels like those of Sharp and Samsung. The colours of IPS panels are also richer and more saturated and back lighting brighter than other panels. In side by side comparison with other brands at stores like Best Denki, I had noticed that the brightness and contrast setting of the Hitachi set would be near default while other sets had their brightness and contrast pushed almost all the way to the maximum just to match the overall PQ of the nearby Hitachi set. But I suppose IPS panels cost more and would most likely not be found in these low cost China LCD TVs. They are available in certain Philips and LG models and the cheap local brand Dixel though.
chualcsg Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 About $2500. Prima have many models and quite confuse. OIC ...Prima 37" LCD TV also 1920 x 1080 ? Any idea how much is the retail price ?
Guest wcseow Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Hi who is the distributor for Prima in Singapore. The shop I patronize often tells me the distributor has change so many times for Prima that he prefer not to sell it. However, I would like a 1920x1080 37' TV and would like to consider a AMOI alternative. I feel AMOI is overprice due to single reseller apparently, and if the Prima price is 2500, is worth it. tks
Ken.Ishiwata Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 Someone please clear my doubts on the technical questions. ??? Cheers!
chualcsg Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Another good point for Prima and Amoi: - 1080p input supported - PC support up to: 1920x1080 for 1080 panel, 1366x768 for 768 panel
chualcsg Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 For Prima and Amoi 1080 panel, sure can connect to PC at full reslution. Possible to operate at 60Hz. If not try 30Hz.
Norman_Chan Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Any owner yet for the Prima 37" LCD TV with 1920 x 1080 resolution to comment ? And which model huh ? http://www.prima-tv.com.hk/lcde.htm
