civicguy Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 My rear bookshelf speakers are hung on my ceiling hedge. The speaker cables leading from the AMP in front to the rear speakers are inside the false ceiling. These speakers cables are quite cheap quality (think kenna con last time :-X) As part of my upgrading plan, I plan to replace all these speakers cables with better ones. However, my application to replace all the cables inside the ceiling has been rejected by my significant half ;D I can, hence, only replace the 3 cables in front. That means, I can replace only the front speakers (central, left and right) cables to my AMP since there is no hacking involved :P Is it okay then to replace these cables with another brand. I will end up with 2 brands of speaker cables then. I will use a new brand for my front 3 speakers cables but the cable from AMP to the rear speakers remain as it is ? Also, is it all right to mix separate ranges of speakers from the same brand ? I thinking of also replacing my front 3 PSB Alpha speakers with PSB Image range but the 2 Alpha speakers behind will remain as it is. If I sound confused, I am. Lost in WC :(
dbchoong Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 No problems with having different cables for the front and back. You should not be able to tell much difference as the rear speakers are usually less active in most applications. As for the front speakers being of a different range from the fronts, also no problems lah. ;D
civicguy Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Thank you :) Only piece of good news after being bashed left, right and centre by Mexico ;D ;D
DIRTRUN Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Hiya, To add a bit on what Choong said, I doubt you will be able to tell the diff in sound especially for the surrounds even if you go up to isoteric(meaning super exp) cables. Just my humble 2 cts... Dirtrun
kacang Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 As an extra thought, keep in mind that if you change cables , change them in pairs. I would not use different cables for let's say, left and right channel. the center channel ofcourse being an exception since it's only one channel. Each cable will have it's own characteristics sothat's why... Erick
hifiluv Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 i use Belden for my centre (silver coated copper) becos i feel tat it gives me a "faster" sound, for my front, i used Texas Sound Lab (full copper) as i feel its better for "ambience". do what u feel to get the sound tat u want, mix and match is part of the fun....;D
deepakvali Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 if your speakers can be bi-wired, you may want to also play around with different cables fo LF and HF. this will help you achieve your "ideal" state.
