andrewtankw Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with this lcdtv? Seems like the sales guy at BD is heavily recommending this.. Its a bit ex.. Btw is it true that for LCD tvs, > 37"is not ideal for picture reproduction? 37"seems to be the limit for the processor to handle.. True?
eagle11624705802 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 must the sales promoter employed by hitachi ;D
varun1624705824 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 37"seems to be the limit for the processor to handle.. True? Absolutely not. - V.
GTMGTM Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I was introduced to this model too while I was keen on the Sharp. This model colors is much better than Sharp to my eye viewing. Also, BD quoted this model comes from Japan hence price is higher than other manufacturers. I am also keen to get feedback on this model from existing users. :)
andrewtankw Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Yup..me too.. From the demo at BD, it looks excellent. its was playing SW3 and even though its just normal DVD playback the reproduction was very good.. Some of the bigger tvs eg for samsung 40"" seems to have some level of pixellation especially on those high contrast borders. Pricey though..
pschia Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I was very much interested in the 32" version. Although it retails for $3,499 at places like Best Denki, it comes with a free HT system which if you don't want, can be replaced by a $500 deduction in price, making it a very competitive $2,999. The PQ of this set beats similar 32" Sony, Samsung, JVC and Philips sets in the $3,000+ range easily because it has the IPS panel which is manufactured by Hitachi.

I was shown this 32" Hitachi set too but the BD guys did not inform me on the HT system but quoted me $3,299, that's why, based on $700 difference, I went further to view the 37" Hitachi. But why 37" did not have the HT system promotion? ???

Found from Mega Discount Store's ad today's Straits Times supplement on HDTVs that the usual price for this 32" set is actually $2,999. Can also trade in old 29"TV/PJTV for $150/$300.

andrewtankw Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 Think those that are interested can go to Parisilk .. so far it think they offer for the 37" 3640 nett if paying by cash or nets.. free delivery, 1 week replacement if found dead pixel. I think its additional 2% if paying by visa.. Still the same 3 yrs warranty. still thinkning b/w Samsung 40" and this.. dunno which is more worth it.

Hi, In my opinion, Samsung to me, there is pixelation issues towards the edge of the screen, hence, I will stick with Hitachi. However, individual eyes have different view, hence, it's up to individual to decide :)
pschia Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 May I know which BEST DENKI store offer this promotion on the 32LD8800TA with the free HT system ??? I went to the one at Great World but I think all Best Denki should be offering the same deal. The strange thing is that there is no sign that said that there is a free HT system on offer. You would only get to know if you asked or if the salesman tells you.
pschia Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Just call up the BD sale guy who entertain me last week, 37" price is $3900 but no free HT system ??? ??? I think the price I saw at >$4,000 is with the free HT system then but would be $3,900 after deducting $500 if you don't want the HT system. If you don't want to pay so much for the Hitachi HDTV with the IPS panel, can also consider some other Philips and LG models (older LG models) as they are also 'quietly' using the IPS panels from Hitachi. I was told by the salesman at BD Great World when I asked him why the nearby LG set has PQ that looked quite similar to that of the Hitachi. The way to tell if the panel is IPS is to press on it. In normal LCD panels, distortions would spread very far when pressed that way. In IPS panels, the distortions are only limited to finger tip area and are much less as well. Hitachi sets with IPS panels still have the best PQ as it seems that their video processing engine is better than those of the other brands/models using IPS panels. Maybe also Hitachi kept the best IPS panels for their own sets.
dutchman Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 hav read reviews http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/home_av/tvs/0,39037588,39355272-39096304p,00.htm not bad.. with scores that outperforms bravia & viera

On the IPS panel, Hitachi got the panel from Philip/LG, hence, I have no idea Hitachi make LCD panel, maybe I can be wrong all this while. ;D

Check out their site here: http://www.hitachi-displays.com/en/technology/2012173_18543.html I think it might be cheaper to buy it from shops like Mega Discount Store and Parisilk. They even have 0% installment schemes to make the purchase more painless.

Thank you for the information on the IPS panel. :) 0% from Mega Discount not attractive as you have to add 5% into the quoted price. Rather pay them by cash or cheque ;D
pschia Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Seems that the latest DiXEL Black LCT TV series also have IPS panels and are much more affordable .... 32" DXL32AT-1B $1,899, 37" DXL37AT-1B $2,799
pschia Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Just ordered the 32" Hitachi from Best Denki. Spent the last 2 days looking for the lowest price at other stores but found that that the price is not much lower than $2,999 if paying by credit card interest-free installment plan. What finally made me choose this set is the twin tuner and the very extensive user-adjustable colour management feature. Most other brands I tested either do not allow the user much control over the colour management or only allow adjustments for red, green and blue. The Hitachi 8800 LCD series allows fine tuning of all 6 colours - red, green, blue, magenta, cyan and yellow. It is also probably the only Made in Japan 32" LCD TV in the market now and comes with 3 years full agent warranty for this period. I had also bargained for and got additional in-house free gift of a Guy Laroche wallet/key pouch set supposedly worth $198. Those who are interested in the 32" Toshiba WL66 TV, the best buy must be Audio House. they are giving away the Toshiba HDMI dvdplayer (by the agent) and a 160GB LG DVDR (in-house promotion).

Hi how much is Audio House selling? Am planning to buy a 32, 37 and 47 Toshiba 66 series. Was quoted for $1950 by both HN and a neighbourhood shop
pschia Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Hi how much is Audio House selling? Am planning to buy a 32, 37 and 47 Toshiba 66 series. Was quoted for $1950 by both HN and a neighbourhood shop Wow... buying all 3 Toshiba TVs ! :o Die-hard Toshiba fan ! 47" also ha ? This is a 1,920 x 1,080 set costing >$7,000 ! The price on the tag for the 32" set at Audio House is $2,199 I think. But this is subject to further bargain and could be reduced much more if you don't want the 160GB LG DVDR. But I must say that I am very surprised that HN could offer so low a price at $1,950. This is the lowest price I have came across the last 2 days. The HN I went to at Jurong Point is selling it at $2,299, refused to lower the price further and flatly denied that there is a free Toshiba HDMI dvdplayer that comes with this set. >:( I was initially very keen on this 32" Toshiba set ... until I saw it side by side with the the Hitachi set at BD Great World. It was suddenly very dull and blurry when compared this way. On it's own though, it does look quite good especially if properly tuned like the one at the Mega Discount Store at United Square.
Guest wcseow Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Hi pschia Thanks. I feel Hitachi PQ is better too, but I guess the pricing matters too..thus going for the Toshiba ranges, seems like it is best value for value. I believe the 47' LCD is also the cheapest in town and at 1920x1280 panel. I think the HN guys give me that pricing as I am buying 3 (and a set of freezer/fridge. Better to buy from HN as can pay by credit card and earn points....
