hermanL Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Hi All, I am using this projector - Panasonic PTL511XU. As it does not have the direct component input, i bought a breakout cable as advised in the forum to test 2 yrs ago but to my dismay, nothing come out from my enser player, when there is the picture is green in colour... so i give up, nearly throw away. Luckily with my xbox360, i hook up and straight away it shows 720P, and the graphic is awsome. I was trilled and checked my enser player again, my pal tell me to play around its hidden setting of PAL and NTSC and once again wow... it works , my projector shows that it is takeing 480P input from enser n image better that that of my Svideo. I am really happy 2 yeas ago the buy is not wasted.... However,Here is my question. My projector spec states -Compatible with six video systems: NTSC, M-NTSC, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, SECAM Component video signal compatibility: 1080i, 720P, 480P, 480i, 625i How do i know if it is true 720P? as my other friend says that when projector show 720P doesnt mean it is true 720P, it is just stating what my xbox is giving out...true? Finally can you gues recommend affordable dvd player that can output 720P graphic? Thanks thanks. P/s _ hope Jag is still active in this forum as he had given me some good advise in the past, on breakout cables
Jag Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Hahaha, a cable from 2 yrs ago gets ressurected. Least it looks great! Your projector native resolution is 800x600. So ur xbox is sending out 720p to your projector, i.e. 1280x720. However, because the source is 1280x720 and the display is 800x600, the display will scale down the video from 1280x720 to 800x600 internally. What u see is downscaled video..........
hermanL Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 Wow, Jag u are back again ah hahaha. Thanks for the advice. I once email and sms u but you dn't recall me already la haha. maybe my no change or nick change hahahah. But funny even so, i can noticed a difference when i use normal 480P from xbox360 and later change to its HD 720P, beside becoming widescreen, the image really get better.. canot be my false sense ma... how is this so? Thats why i was thinking can it be if i buy a dvd player that can output 720P component, then my projector would be better also heee heee... But seems that there is no such 720P dvd player in the world
Quest88 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 There's even 1080p dvd players in the world now. 720p dvdp also isn't that expensive now, such as the Oppo DV971H that is popular here, or some Denon dvd players. Hard to say why the picture becomes better. Is it because the native resolution of the xbox360 is 720p? If that's so, then maybe the downscaler in the xbox360 is not as good as the one in your projector? ??? Just guessing.
hermanL Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 Hi Guys, i confirmed that my projector has an xga resolution of 1024x768 i guess and its vga port can accept progressive scan of 480P... this may be why my xbox image is good as i can even use its 720P... but my concern is that is it true 720P?? my friend says even thought my projector show 720P it is not true that it is really using 720P....... Now i research for good dvd player that output 720P... it seems that to output 720P, they use either dvi or hdmi output only ah.. which my projector cant accept.... Q1 is it true that dvd player wont output 720P via component cable? Q2 if i buy a convertor to convert dvi to vga head n plug to my projector there is no use?? as i read that when dvi go into vga become analogue signal again hence no difference as to normal signal instead of HD... true?
