Hi guys,

I'm buying a HDTV soon. Budget around SGD 1500.

Thinking of getting a 30-34" HDTV with HDMI input. Is there any CRT with HDMI support available? I can't find any CRT with HDMI terminal locally. So far, I've only found Sony CRT but overseas.

*your assistance will be much appreciated. Thanks!  ;D

Hiya F,

Welcome to Xp.

With the interests on Crt waning and the popularity of flat panels gaining momentum you would be hardpressed to find many choices. Does the Samsung slimfits have Hdmi?

Maybe you can look at similar priced lcd tv's, chances are they will have Hdmi options.

Cheers.

The Samsung 32" C32Z40HN Has HDMi, just a question of will it be marketed here or not, come Mid June 06 we will know :)

I saw a Sony CRT HD-Ready TV KV-DB34M61 (if you see the latest Sony catalogue) selling at 1430 SGD. Do yall think it is worth it? Do share.

Let me put it to you this way... if you try to sell the 34" set even a few months after you buy it, you're unlikely to get more than $500 for it. If you think you're going to be satisfied with the 34" CRT for at least 2-3 years and will not want to switch over to plasma / lcd in that time, then, and only then, should you go for the CRT. Else spring the extra cash or take on a 0% installment scheme and go for a flat-screen once and for all.

Note that I'm not saying that LCDs / plasmas don't depreciate quickly - with rapidly changing technology, they certainly do. What I am saying is that most folks, at some point, want to switch to a flat screen, and if you're one of them, the instant depreciation will hurt.

Best,

- V.

An ya, I heard about the Samsung CRT HDMI support TV, but then, how can anyone confirm on the availability here?

Thanks a lot!

Actually a colleague of mine got the new Samsung hdmi crt tv sent to him a couple of days ago.I think it was the 32" Z40 series. His case, was that his previous crt tv, Samsung 32" C32Z31 happens to have

some faults and Samsung got his set exchange in return. He waited 1mth plus.

And he said it's worth the wait. ;)

Regarding availability of the new model, why don't u chk with samsung? :)

Slim CRT is a better choice in next 5 years or even longer:

- SDTV or DVD: Better PQ than LCD TV

- HDTV: PQ is near, equal or better than to LCD TV (depend on factors)

Take notes:

- HDCP.

- 800 lines

32" Wide slim TV at below $1150 is a good buy

I'm very curious if CRT can be HDTV when it can only display images by lines and not pixels?

Fr what i gather fr my colleague,the tv is HD ready with 1080i/720p specs.It has 1 hdmi i/p, 2 component i/ps, 2av i/ps & 1 av out. :)

Please let us know the PQ

Also is it possible to display data or Play video from PC DVI to TV HDMI

Thanks! I've just bought the latest Z40 SlimFit Samsung HDTV with HDMI input. Luckily, today's paper came out and tomorrow I will get my TV delivered. Just in time for World Cup!

I am definitely excited about CRT with HDMI input as it is still a cheaper option compared to LCD. However, I can't find the Z40 technical specs on the samsung.com.sg website. Appreciate all of your advice on where in S'pore to get the TV? Thanks.

Can the HD-CRT display the full 1280 X 720 resolution and 1980 X 1080 ?

Or they also need to re-scale ?

Cos in terms of picture quality for SDTV a CRT will look better than LCD or Plasma.

Gee! Thank you very much for the link. I went down to Samsung Customer Service at Plaza Singapura this PM to see if I could get a demo of the TV. Unfortunately, they don't have it. In fact, the centre services handphones only. Wonder what the PQ is like vis-a-vis LCD TV.

Checked the price of Z40 with Gain City there, got a quote of $1391. Not very price competitive. Could anyone recommend place to get a much better price? Thanks.

HCTVs based on CRT are readily available in the US and many other countries for some time now. I gather this when I read AV mgzs from the US some time back. But Z40 is the only one with HDMI now.

I suspect the profit margin and business sense is a key issue on why they are not bringing them into SIN. Moreover, we only have a population of 4 mil compared to othe countries which have much more.

Let's hope that this initiative from Samsung will start the ball rolling for the other TV manufacturers.

Just read the manual the HDMI cannot connect to PC.

Suggest Samsung make improvement:

- Change 16:9 to 16:10 to solve the corner distortion.

- Make PC connection available at 1680x1050

Cuurently there are a lot of offer on 32" or 37" LCD TV at attractive price.

32" LCD TV are about $1200-$2000 (expensive ones will come with free gift like  HDD DVD recorder)
