rider1624705803 Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Hi, anyone here looked at this product yet ? http://www.airlinktek.com/english/prod_mg350.htm Looks good if it works as advertised, the bummer is that it is not available in Singapore. i am considering picking one up in Korea on my next visit. What do the gurus here think? besides almost nil support besides email. Comments Thanks
SiriuslyCold Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 o masochistic one, let me quote your post "not available in Singapore" "almost nil support besides email" I think there are similar products in Singapore - haven't done research. Unless there 1. no similar product sold in SG (or at the same price level) 2. is a compelling feature not available on the units that are sold in SG 3. you have seen good reviews from a reasonably large community of users
sonofdbn Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 On the other hand, minimal e-mail support is pretty good compared to Aivx/Sarotech which has NO e-mail support. You can contact them via their website, but I have yet to get a response from them. But yes, there are other similar devices available in Singapore - try Studio Storage in SLS for a start.
SiriuslyCold Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 On the other hand, minimal e-mail support is pretty good compared to Aivx/Sarotech which has NO e-mail support. o good some encouragement from someone even more masochistic.. *LOL* ;D
Subby1624705798 Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 There are quite a few other brands available here locally like Sarotech, Pixelmagic and some other Korean brands as well and they work almost in a similar manner except some may have more features than others. I am currently using Pixelmagic MB200. Unless the price is so much cheaper, then it's worth getting it. I have tried getting some of these direct from Korea and they range in the region of about US$125 and above.
rider1624705803 Posted June 3, 2006 Author Posted June 3, 2006 Yep, i am using the sarotech aivx-370 already and so far quite happy with it. Just thought that this one had some very interesting features It is a highly-performed player, DMA with 3.5-inch HDD. It has a 11g wireless connection Time-sliced dual-band 11a/g is possible upon request. One 10/100 Ethernet port is provided. The player has a built-in 3.5-inch HDD As the price of 3.5-inch HDD is the lowest compared to other sizes, users can easily install 80G or 120G for storing digital movies Has a USB2.0 slave port. It provides an alternative way to download digital contents from the PC Also has a USB2.0 host port. Thus USB storage devices can be attached and the stored content can be played directly Supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, ISMA MPEG-4, MPEG4 and WMV9 over MPEG-2 transport and WMV9 streaming. The 3.5-inch HDD is optional In this case, the player can be a low-cost DMA without HDD Can be configured with Web-based movie distributor as a media gateway to access, play and/or legally download movies from the web Download does not need a home PC Optimal OEM/ODM solution in high-performance DMA The DMA is designed to be flexible and easily fits the customer's requirements Features Has one 10/100 LAN port Supports USB2.0 host/slave 3.5-inch HDD is user-installable Supports HD MP2, MP4 and WMV9 Supports MP1/2@HL (720p/1,080i), MP4@L5 (720p) and WMV9 MP@ML (720p) Supports composite, S-video, component video outputs Supports stereo L/R, optical/coaxial digital audio, analog 5.1 channels Supports JPEG/BMP/GIF/PNG still picture File-surfing from multiple sources on TV using a remote controller ¡ß PCs in the network ¡ß HDD inside ¡ß USB devices attached Well waiting for the price to see whether the pain is worthwhile taking lah.
rider1624705803 Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Brief review Ok, I manage to buy one from the company direct on my last trip to seoul for US$150. So far it's working as advertised, and I put in a 300gb hdd. 1)connects via 11g to my home network for media streaming.plays normal media files well, but the HD Wmv shutters during streaming 2) NDAS works and the key is located underneath the box.Appears as a hdd on my computer and can transfer and delete files to it. Though this takes a longer time than usb 2.0 for transfer. 3) plays all the hd wmv files that was dnloaded from microsoft website on the installed hd full screen and great resolution. 4)connected via usb host an optical drive to play dvd direct. This works but tends to make the system unstable and takes out the wireless network.I had to reset by removing the pwr and usb cable and redect my wireless network. 5)bgm selection for photo viewing (plays music during photo slide show) 6)upscale media up to 1080i for component connection, higher for dvi 1080p(though I have not tried dvi yet) Have not tried the wired lan connection and dvi connection to the TV (still waiting for my dvi to hdmi cable) Hopefully a firmware upgrade will solve the usb host issue.
byang Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Hi Rider, can the player playback DRM protected WMVHD video? Thanks!
rider1624705803 Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Hi Rider, can the player playback DRM protected WMVHD video? Thanks! Played back Akexander clip okay, but did not play Titanic clip. both suppose to drm protected. However my take is no it does not playback drm protected files
