jfk Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I need advise from those who own or experience Denon 1920 dvd player on projector. My setup: - Panasonic AE700 - with HDMI - Panasonic XR55 - Triangles Front LR and C - Mirage bipole Rear LR and C Questions: 1. How is the component quality of Denon 1920? 2. Any problems outputing from 1920 to projector? 3. Any problem with using longer length HDMI cable : 10 - 12 m? 4. Any problems when both component and HDMI cables are hooked up between 1920 and projector? THANK YOU all in advance. Would be great to receive inputs from you guys ASAP. Thanks again
jin101 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Hi jfk, I have been using 1920 for almost a month now and there are no problems on both the component and HDMI connections. My HDMI and component cables are 15m long I think. No problems with connecting to both component and HDMI. My guess is that the PQ quality also depends on the cables used as well as your display. But I can say that the PQ is very good on my Epson TW-600. Upscaling of normal DVD movies to 720p is surpisingly good. I have also learned to clean all the rented DVDs with a lint-free/scratch-proof cloth before playing it on my new player. Hopefully this will keep my player in optimum performance. I really like the player except for its LED display and its overall design which looks dated. Other than that, its a great player for its price!
jfk Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 Hi jin101 thanks for the input. can i check what brand/model HDMI cable you are using? where and how much you got it for? if it is sensitive, pls PM me. thanks
zapp1624705742 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 jin101, u using TW600 also? Good to hear that 1920 passes the 15m HDMI test. I am thinking of investing in the 1920 but thing is that it doesnt support DIVX that well. sigh...
jin101 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Hi Zapp, Yah...using the tw600 as well and loving it. Personally I prefer the tw600 to Panny AE900. Prefer a sharper and brighter image and no SDE if you are sitting 3m - 4m away from a 100" 16:9 screen. Anyway, I have not tried the DIVX on the player. Will try it when I have the time. But I think I will stream my DIVX content via the xbox. Is the new xbox360 able to stream movie/pics from PC?
zapp1624705742 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 the 360 doesnt allow UNLESS u buy the windows XP media center edition and u can only do wmv lol...typical. I dun usually watch that many movies on divx but sometimes got some jp dramas i wish to catch...meh i think i will just connect my laptop and watch from there lol... my dad has the 1920 and i find it a safe bet but i still wondering how 1920 compares to the much cheaper Nachus 3188 is it true that the AE900 has no SDE? I see SDE on my 80inch screen if i go up to about 2m? at my current position of 2.7m sometimes i still spot it now and then but then again only when i get bored of the program or movie i am watching lol...
jin101 Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I am not sure if ae900 has SDE at 2m viewing distant. But there are not SDE on my tw600 at 3m - 4m viewing distant. SDE could be obvious if you are viewing at distant less than 2m though. At least thats my observation on my tw600.
htfreak Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Generally, you would be hard pressed to find SDE on any of the new D5 based LCD projectors at distances beyond 3m. At shorter distances even up to 0.5m and less (IMO), this is where the Smoothscreen technology in the AE900 outshines the rest. However, the overall picture ends up slightly softer as a result.
byang Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 i think the 1920 only upscale to 1080i via hdmi and not component. I may be wrong though but i think it is worth checking up if u plan to upscale thru component.
wyvern Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Heard from KEC that Denon 1920 has compatibility problem with Philips and Sony LCD. It was also rumoured that lipsync is one of the problem. Bought it few weeks back but exchanged for Marantz DV6600 the next day because it is also not compatible with my Toshiba LCD.
jin101 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Anyone having this problem too? I intend to get the samsung LCD for my bedroom. Not sure if the 1920 will be compatibile with the LCD if I were to upgrade the 1920 to a HD-DVD player for my pj in the future.
W Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Hi Where's best place to get this DVDP ? Heard KEC offer best price at $475 ? Audio House selling this for $599. will there be significant PQ improvement over my older Pioneer DV166 DVDP for output to samsung 40" LCD ?
