stocker Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Looking for a transport for my diy DAC, I don't mind having a DVDP as it means less equipment around. Been using a Philips DVDP's digital out, but recently the DVDP has been giving out a whining sound (which bothers me) and have a little problem tracking CDRs, no problem with regular CDs or DVDs though. Not necessarily rock solid Meridian-type transport, but something quiet, reliabily and reasonably good quality and stable transport system. For a DVDP, needs to have digital out, CDP like control and basic functions like repeat one/all and back to start to track (some Philips DVDP if you press back goes to prevous track). Nice to have will be ability to switch off display, centre loading tray, progressive scan and headphones output. Any recommendations for a budget of under $500? Can be new or used.
Tachikoma Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Well... if you don't mind looking like a cheapskate, get one of the "vintage" external NEC multispin cd-rom drives (yes the ones with caddies) http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=121756&highlight=NEC+multispin Something like this model =P not all of the multispin drives had digital outs however, so you should do a little research at head-fi if you want to buy one
