Again here you are.  If you read carefully it says no need for small screens. Which is 34" and below. But on bigger screens the effect is there.  Just as we know all along those using small screens do not need HD.  So if a high resolution DVD is not needed, why do you keep pushing your EVD??  Stop this nonsense la.  We know you have something to gain from EVD.

No one knows which format will win. In fact, there is a high chance all will fail (eg. SACD & DVDA) as many might find it too much trouble to switch from good old plain DVD which is pretty much acceptable by most.

It is good there are more competition to help push prices down, though.

Agree that no one knows which format will win.  And hopefully the cheaper one will or maybe as you say both will not be accepted which is fine.  But I do not see why someone who clearly has a agenda keep posting 1 post thread just to push his "product" should be allowed to do it. He could just keep posting in the same thread but instead he does it in a new thread.  Again the winner of the the next generation DVD will depend on the content provider whether we like it or not. I do not see US companies working with China/Taiwan or China companies wanting to give up the fight against the US. But hopefully no 3 standards please

Colossal Rip-off Amateur Productions (NYSE: CR*P) announced today that it will release probably less than 100 HD titles on its new VCD format, which is better than DVD, E-DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, HDB, WMD, ERP, vinyl, cassette and VHS (because we say so) in the United States later this year. They will include several Broadway shows as soon as we find a way to film them without getting caught.

The VCD is the next generation disc standard designed specifically for high definition content as well as anything else, using super-modern sounding laser technology with storage capabilities up to 650MB. The VCD format is extremely durable, and has been tested to last for at least three insertions into the new range of VCD drives, which will retail for  US$399 (if we can find some suckers customers prepared to pay that). Users are required to insert one VCD every 20 minutes per movie to view the content at DVD quality. Occasional dropouts might be experienced. Full 1080p resolution is possible with a medium size extended family if everyone stands in a queue, inserts the VCDs in the right order and pretends not to notice the little square blocks.

Returning from a road show in the U.S., Phil O'Bull, the company's CEO, was extremely upbeat on the prospects in the U.S. marketplace stating that "We believe the opportunity for VCDs to succeed here in the United States is growing quickly and we are determined to exploit that opportunity as timely and completely as possible."

CR*P has also decided to accelerate its launch of different VCD formats (well, at least lots of different colours) in the U.S. to accommodate the computer market. To bring market entry plans to fruition, CR*P will open a full fledged operation somewhere where they can't find us. To head the operation, CR*P appointed A. H. Beng, a long time sales and marketing executive from SLS who is familiar with VCD from a national retail, content, and hardware perspective.

The CR*P operation will be based in some nearby but legally untouchable city and will engage in sales and marketing of VCDs and VCD drives, as well as content acquisition and aggregation through and Bittorrent and hand-held vidcams. DRM is enforced through ensuring quality and content is so poor that no one would want to copy the VCDs anyway.

Excellent work. You left out the bit of the Press Release that went on to say:

When asked about their marketing plans, Mr O'Bull said CR*P in the process of deploying an army of dedicated forumers to spread the good word through a combination of their witty, objective, and useful contributions to relevant message boards. He went on to say that these innovative tactics have been trialled to much success on a popular board in SE Asia, where a dedicated forumer has used incisive commentary to gain credibility among AV enthusiasts who have, as a result, all dropped their HD-DVD and BD-DVD purchase plans in favour of EVD-VMD. Drawing parallels with Skype, which also benefitted from intelligent community-buzz marketing, Mr O'Bull said, "It is through such strategic deployment of people with credibility in the local communities that we are taking the EVD message to the masses. Our research indicates that repeating the same message thrice in quick succession in the same thread, albeit with slightly different words, helps get the message across. Well structured and reasoned arguments are for duffs."

Merged all the EVD-VMD stuff into one single thread.

Chualcsg, please post all your EVD news here instead of having a new thread everytime.

Just saw someone mention an interview with Bob Stuart of Meridian in HifiNews(?). He said in the format war between SACD and DVD-A, MP3 has won.

now, in the format war between HD and BD...
