sas_aaron Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Hmmm encounter some strange noise from my 4805. I know how fan noise and color wheel noise sound like, and this noise is definitely not one of them. I am using in Low Power mode. Description: Its sounds like it right comes off the power plug (not the 3-pin socket, i mean the other end where you slot onto your 4805) . The constant noise sounds like "flying housefly", like a constant "Zzzzzzzz.........." or "Electric Hum". This happens occasionally and is very loud and annoying when it comes; and when other times without the "Zzzzzz" sound, its works just as normal. Anyone encounter this before? is it a problem with the power plug? there a way to solve it? :-[
Quest88 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 i'm also curious as to what causes this problem. i've got another brand of projector that has this same issue. but my sound tends to go off within afew mins. usually occurs when i first start the projector.

Phil1624705739 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 No prob here. You wanna try a new powercord? Phil
sas_aaron Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 No prob here. You wanna try a new powercord? Phil actually i plug the original 2m power cord into a 6m multi-socket adaptor. got electric buzz noise. i hear that its better to plug a direct power cord to wall, so i custom a 7m power cord to plug direct into wall. still got electric buzz noise. maybe mine is not compatible? i got a power cable 250/440V with both terminated ends 10A/250V. should be correct lehz. really i am out of idea for this. hmmm you know any where to get a 7m power cord(both terminated ends are 10A/250V), i went LHS but they dun have the one with same specs(theirs is 13Aor15A with 250V).

I DIYed a Belden powercord with US plug and Wattgate IEC running off my power conditioner. So far so good. I suggest u send your PJ back for servicing, maybe its a loose wire at the IEC socket. Phil

sas_aaron Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 I just got my SP4805 back from the local servicing centre. the technician help me change the following: Color Wheel, Fan, and Power Socket Port. I found that the SP4805 sounds louder than before, like its has another sound which totally overshadows the air-whooshing sound. The sound is abit like loud variable hum and crickets-at-night, which will echo the whole room(an isolated Home Theatre Room), and trust me it louder than before i send my SP4805 for servicing. i switch on my sound system, and the weird sound can be heard clearly. even a 16 year old found the sound weird and obviously louder. i suspect it is the sound made by the new color wheel. the very next day, i brought back the 4805 to the servicing center, and as expected the technician is not very unhappy. i tried to explain the problem to him, and he keep explaining that it sounds normal (the surrounding is noisy, and he never really listen to the 4805 anyway), and keep bashing back at me in front of other people, as if i am an stubborn idiot. he even question me of his professionalism, not to mention that he keep giving me a slanted-eye stare. Another technician is also unable to hear it, but at least he kindly mention he will take it back to infocus main office to investigate. Now i am going to wait for at least a week, but i am not expecting any good news. i am not very happy with the problems the product is giving me, as well as the service. Damn.. thinking of giving it up already. >:(
pilyo Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 hi sas_aaron, just happened to see this thread, which is quite interesting... i use a 4805 as well, and sometimes there's a slight buzzing noise coming from the vicinity of the mains cord inlet. but in my case, i think it's a dc problem (or, more appropriately, a situation?). from what i understand, the transformer inside is not that tightly wound (or just isn't of videophile high-end grade!), so it buzzes when there's a bit of dc in the ac power line. the level of this varies and comes/goes depending on what i or my neighbors have running at any given time (for some strange reason my washing machine always aggravates the buzzing during the spin cycle). thing is, i doubt this is something that power conditioners will cure very well, as they tend to not do much about dc (personally i use a couple of ap quietlines, which don't solve the buzzing but tend to take some grain off the pic). at any rate, my 4805's buzzing is generally not very intrusive (the rasp of the color wheel's louder), so i can live with it. i don't know if our situations are comparable, but perhaps the service center might be persuaded to look into your 4805's transformer?
ciputra Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 mmm my guess is faulty color wheel, they do give out sounds faintly even for normal operation
sas_aaron Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 hmmm just got it repaired. ok the color wheel sound is gone, now left the same old electric problem. really dunno what to do about it, cos the techie already change the power socket port. :-\
domj Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I did have the buzzing sound coming from the power socket last time. It seems the plug was a bit loose thus the contact wasn't good. Changed to another plug and it's ok now. Dunno if urs is the same prob though...
