Guest pitchtone79 Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Looking to buy a Panasonic XR55 for my home theatre set up. From what I have read, this is a pretty good AVR. I understand that it is a digital receiver (correct me if i am wrong). However, I would like to find out what exactly IS a digital receiver??? What are its advantages? And finally where can I purchase one? Most grateful for any inputs.
SiriuslyCold Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 a digital receiver is a loose term and currently applies to a AV receiver that includes a digital processor (DSP) and decodes digital audio streams (Dolby Digital and DTS). In fact all of them are digital receivers, but most of the receivers available use analog solid state amplifiers The Panasonic XR series are digital receivers with digital amplifiers You would have been able to buy one on Amazon.com, but XR55's are currently out of stock (you might look in the sales thread to see if anyone is selling theirs) If you can wait till mid-june I think the new XR57s with HDMI will become available, but there won't be any sold in Singapore (or Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand) - so you'll have to get it on Amazon still (which would be the best prices anyway - RRP is US$299 same as XR55, and Amazon was selling XR55 at US$229. Compare with UK price GBP270 and Australia AUD$699)
