alexbird Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Frens, need advise pse. Thinking of buying 5.1 gallos micro, but want to buy another subwoofer. Any budget recommendations? Was thinking of buying the 10 in Wharfedale from SLS City Electronics - I rem it was quite cheap. But not sure if it would be able to complement the small size of the gallos speakers - would there be a drastic gap in terms of the mid and low freq range? The ideal sub would be one which has a small footprint and tight bass - my budget is about $500. Also need advise on a fuss free and easy to use AVR - one which also has a small footprint. Digital AVR is what I am looking for - but I know my budget of about 500 bucks is not going to cut it (I know - wishful thinking!!). Never mind - lets see wat is the general comments and advise. BTW, will be posting in echo for more comments. Thanks.
SiriuslyCold Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 actually $500 would have been enough to get a superb Panasonic XR55 shipped from the US. unfortunately they are sold out almost everywhere and you'd be lucky to find one. oh, wait hplanet selling 2 extra sets.. why don't u ask him

BTW, i'm also in two minds on the gallos and orbaudio...may i ask what is the asking price for the gallos? Thanks in advance.
Jediknight Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Gallos are quite expensive - about $200/speaker (not pair) IIRC. My advice would be to go for cheaper speakers like Wharfedale Diamond 9.0 (<$300/pair) so you will have more money for a decent sub and AVR. Need at least $500 for the sub and another $500 for the AVR. If you really must have tiny speakers, then would advise you to wait and save up another $500. Don't buy those cheap Wharfedales at SLS - they are not good, hence the cheap price. Paradigm PS-1000 is good value for money if you can find it.
stealth Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 If your looking for good 5.1 satellites speaker that can perform for music & HT, try auditing the Cabasse Xo2 system available at Electrades Audio 4th floor Adelphi. Cost about $1.5k comes with all accessories eg: spk cables, brackets and stand...Oh! and its easy to drive 92dB. http://www.cabasse.com Cheers! :D
Jediknight Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Wow, that Cabasse system sure looks good! If it's as good as they claim it is (flat response 35-22000 Hz), then it's good value for money at $1.5k! Otherwise, if you still want the Gallos, here's a decent sub at great price to go with it - second hand, but hey it's THX certified! http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=37075.0

The specs mention that the satellites goes down to 200 (pretty high) while the sub handles 35-200. Other sat/sub systems you should consider auditioning are like the KEF KHT, Definitive Technology Pro-Cinema...
alexbird Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Thanks for all the comments. Still comtemplating.... but I bought a pioneer digital amp already C501-S. I know it is an old model but it is cheap - only $370.
