freeman Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Hi, I like to ask the expert bro here to recommend a good DVDR with Video Upscaler ??? Please provide the price range as well as I'm only looking to spend a few hundred dollars and not a few thousand dollars on it. Appreciate it :D If you know, can you also let me know whether the upscaler works on component or HDMI, my LCD TV does not have DVI inputs :-\ THANKS !

myhifisystem Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Try LG 250G HD-DVDR with HDMI ouput for @$999!! Regards
xbfloater Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Hi guys, I believe having HDMI output does not automatically mean that the set will come with a 720p/1080i video upscaler, right? Can someone confirm on that? I would think that the cost of including either one or both will be different... So it depends on how the manufacturers want to market their next generation DVDRs. But it seems like DVDRs with HDD, HDMI output & video upscaler is the next mini wave before the giant HD-DVD/Blu-Ray wave hits the mass consumer shore... =) freeman, AFAIK, Philips is coming with a 400GB model (my dream machine) that meets your feature needs. But the cost will definitely be above 1K! Samsung is also coming out with a few such models with different HDD sizes & also just with DVD R/RW recordings... I guess these models' price range may meet your cost needs more closely. Unfortunately, they seems to be not launched in SGP yet as I'm also frantically searching for them over the past week... I'm hoping it will be within these few weeks, say with a roadshow/promo for the World Cup, so that I can test/calibrate my new pj...! I believe it makes more technical sense to transport upscaled video signal digitally over HDMI cable rather than analogically (got such a term???) over component video cables, right? Otherwise, it will not retain the full PQ quality that is achieved with video upscaling... Anyone would like to clarify that, as well...? Cheers, xbfloater
freeman Posted May 2, 2006 Author Posted May 2, 2006 Hey guys, thanks for the recommendations... but I'm looking for a DVDR with only DVD recording, no need for HDD feature..... cos my budget is only a few hundred dollars :-\ Is there any big difference between recording straight into DVD-R or to a HDD 1st ??? xbfloater, you are right.... I only need a DVDR without HDD.... any idea what are the samsung models ? Are they available in the USA already ???

darthmax Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Pioneer will be releasing their new HDMI, upscale HDD DVDR recorder very soon....
xbfloater Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Hi guys, Everyone is saying the new-gen DVDRs with HDMI output & video upscaler by Philips, Pioneer & Samsung etc are launching soon but the question is how soon...? Is it going to be this month or just before World Cup...? Can share any insider news...? =P Also, I noticed that major electronics retailing stores' DVDP/DVDR section has very low stock counts & discounted sets these few days... Even Carrefour in Plaza Sing has completely near-zero stock for some models. A telltale sign that new models will be launching soon...? Cheers, xbfloater
chualcsg Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 To attract buyers, DVDP/DVDR must come with HDMI, Upscaler. I believe all manufacturers are ready to supply the New Generation DVDP/DVDR.
