Hi Guys

Would like to find out if anyone know whether there is any difference betw a DVI cable with 18 pins and 24 pins?

Hope fellow bros can shed some light on this or point me to a relevant site.

Thks!

The pinout table below provides the pin out for a DVI-I connector, supporting both digital and analog signals. Single Link DVI uses 12 of the available pins providing a maximum bandwidth of 165MHz. Single Link connectors do not use pins 4, 5, 12, 13, 20 and 21. Dual link DVI is implemented when all 24 pins are used providing 2 x 165MHz bandwidth. The analog signal are implemented by the 'micro-cross' pins; C1 - C5. copied from link

In other words, it means the data transferred is half of a dual link.

In practical terms, does it affects current setup of attaining 720p or 1080i? Will I get a lesser picture quality using a single link?

Apologies, dun quite get all the technical jargon.

Yes there's difference...but I'm not talking about PQ here...Do not be mistaken that by having more 'pins' is equivalent to better PQ...the difference is towards the employablity of the cable itself.

Normally DVI-A (18-pins) meant for VGA Card for PC with DVI connectors. But then again these days the VGA Card is able to accept 24+5 pins as well...that is Dual-Link based.

All if not most of the HT AV equipment will come with DVI-D/A connection. Projector for instance will normally be spotted with a DVI-D type of connector at the rear panel...whilst the DVD Player will have DVI-I (that accepts both Analog and Digital)
