basspundit Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Dang....working for the god-father has burnt in a very obvious circular pattern on my plasma tv. I've been reading about plasma-burn ins, has anyone tried the 24hr static pattern test to supposedly lessen the ghosting effect? Does it work or those it screw things up further?
oliverlim Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Just put on a channel that has no logos and lots of moving picture. Or just loop a 16:9 DVD with lots of bright and dark scene and it should slowly go away. How long did you leave the static scene? I hope the plasma is not new..... Oliver
basspundit Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Its pretty new....2 months old. I was playing the godfather game on the xbox....god knows why they have to use a bright WHITE outline around the scoreboxes and maps. So thats the area where the pixels are always fixed. Yeah only now then i read that you need to break-in the plasma for 200 hrs argh. Just put on a channel that has no logos and lots of moving picture. darthmax Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Switch to a blank channel like channel 99 which do not have TV channel program assign to it. Leave it on for 10-15 min (as shown on the picture)...see whether it solve your problem... ;D
tidalstorm Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 plasma are not good for gaming cos burn in can occurs... I did not even play ps2 games on my plasma cos the game (winning 11) always got score box on the top right. I only play my game on my trusted CRT tv.... :P 1st 100 hours is very important.....
oliverlim Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Yupe. 200 hours "burn in" much better. then you will rarely have any further issues. Also it depends on brand. Panasonic very good. I have seen their plasama with a blue box on their plasma at courts causeway point for more then 6 hours and I switched input just to see if there was any burn in. None at all! The empty channel is a good idea. But you need probably as long a time as you left the static image to get rid of one. Just be patient and I am sure after a week or so, you will probably not see it anymore. Oliver
wind30 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I see burn in on my Hitachi TA300 after playing on my xbox 360 for like a few hours. But the burn in always goes away after a while to I am not too bothered by it.
basspundit Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 Hmm after prolonged tv sessions the burnin is less obvious, but doesn't really go away. I think it wasn't properly broken in before i started playing games. Can the manufacturers do something about it and would it cost alot? Or maybe i should just get something else suitable for games
karlie Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Play the God Father with reverse picture for a while...

basspundit Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 What do you mean? How do you reverse the image? I'm using xbox so i have no access to the video driver Play the God Father with reverse picture for a while... Philips 42????, anything about this brand? What brand is your Plasma panel?
Corona11 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I just thought you may state the brand so that other users of that brand may take due care. BTW how the hell to judge the number of hours of use in the Plasma? Mine does not have a panel life timer, although my Samsung D4 may be more than a year old my usage is very light.
basspundit Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 Guesstimation? Grrr....i think i'll bug the philips tech thats gonna come.....they've given me pretty good service so far. I am having problems with the HDMI connectivity with the denon 1920, they've actually borrowed the 1920 back to their lab, and made it work by slapping an additional chip on the tv. Now thats good service....but it would've been better if the problem did not occured from the product roll-out in the first place... armoury Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Having said all this, remember there is a slight difference between burn-in (which cannot really be reversed) and image-retention, which automatically goes away after a while. A few months ago, I went on holiday for two weeks, my wife asked my in-laws to come in every few days to water the plants etc, and when I got back, the first time I turned on my plasma (Pio 434), I could see retained teletext information, no doubt my father-in-law looking up the stocks... but after a while it was gone. How long that "while" is, I can't remember, but I didn't do anything special to deal with the problem, just watch TV or DVDs as usual. FWIW, I don't play video games, so I am at less risk of burn-in. But those of you who are die-hard gamers, please exercise a little caution -- switch your games around a bit, don't play the same one non-stop -- which I know is difficult especially with the new Godfather game, but there you go.

Yupe we are mostly getting image retention. Burn in is permanent! I have a 4G Pio too and it does have image retention once in a while if the same static image is on the screen for something like 2-3 hours. But it goes away after a few hours too. I know that the Pana 6G models can go for 5-6hours and still does not suffer for image retention. I am not sure if the 5G or 6G Pio have improved or how much better/worse are the LG or samsung models. As yours is like 10 hours? if I understand you right, you need a pretty long time to see if it is a burn in or image retention. Oliver
