Hi,

Do you watch sports progamme with your projector and how is the experience?

I am thinking of getting one, but dont know which model to get ( may be the Panasonic AE-900 ).

The reason of asking is the World Cup is coming and I am thinking of getting it now rather than later.

Any other good recomendation from you guys?

Thanks  ;)

Yes, sometime I watch football programme with my nephews on a big screen it is more enjoyable then watching it on a small TV. ;D

We also like to watch the NDP on a big screen too.

If u like the Panasonic AE-900 go for it. I think it is good enough for sport games programmes.

It's great watching football and other sporting events on a projector screen. I use my projector for everything, TV and movies.

The only issue you may need to consider is whether you want a 4:3 or 16:9 projector/screen. This will depend on what you watch more, TV or movies.

For me I watch TV more than movies, so I went for a 4:3 projector and screen. It doesn't really bother me watching movies with the black bars. Until Singapore moves to HDTV I don't see any point to change.

Now if Starhub comes out with a HDTV package for the world cup I'll be off to buy a new projector and screen in a flash ;)

I believe most if not all the projectors that r in the same range as AE900 is able to give U decent TV viewing but it all depends on your source as projectors don't come with TV tuners.

Of course the "normal" way of connection from SH STB will be via the composite video cable to the projector but this will not yield very good video quality bcos the feed is poor SD video whereas the AE900 is a 720p projector.

For better quality, U can go for the SH HDD recorder as it output via video component rather than composite.

For best TV video quality (but need to burn a hole in pocket :P), U will need to go thru' a dedicated video processor or upscaler to "enhance" the TV video quality. But the good thing is U can "enhance" all your other video outputs from DVD player, PC, VCR etc at the same time.  ;)

I find the best PQ is using the Xbox 360 with a Media Center PC for watching TV on the big screen via 720p or 1080i.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I am interested in the AE-900 because of its 2.0X zoom, my intention is to place the projector on a high shelf on the back wall and the distance to the screen is 17 ft where I can achieve a diagonal size of minimum 84". But I will be sitting only about 9 feet from the pull down screen which is just in front of the projection tv. May I know for this viewing distances which is the most comfortable diagonal size I can go for ( max for me is 100" ). Does anyone has similar setup?

Another question is all the AV components are in front and the projector are at the rear, I was thinking of shifting the dvdp to the rear close to the projector but then I had to get a very long digital cable from the dvdp to the av amp ( 50 feet ) for digital cable are there any max length limit? or it would be better to leave the dvdp close to the av amp and to run a long hdmi cable from the front to the rear?

Any suggestions.

Thanks. ;)

How come your subject is "Watching TV with projector" then now U r asking about DVD watching. :o

Anyway, if U r going to shift your DVDP behind, what about your TV viewing ??? R U going to shift all your video sources behind ?

It's both ok to have long runs of say 15m of either HDMI or digital coaxial cables. Just note that since it's for long runs, U ought to get better quality cables.  ;)

The panny AE900 is only a 1100 lumens PJ, might not be a good idea for a bright room, go for the the Epson TW600 instead with 1600 lumens.

I have also like the TW600 for its 1600 lumens but I like the AE900 2.0X zoom for versatile of placement  ???

As I will be using it in the hall without light control, is the panny sufficient for my use?

Thanks  ;)

If you do go for the AE900, do invest also in a blackout curtain as 1100 is insufficient for a hall with uncontrollable lighting. Even a small office require at least a 1500 lumens PJ to maintain a minumum viewable image.

So the Panny is definetly out, if you consider it to replace your TV.
