Guest gabjen Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Hi,first time setting up a HT,was currently considering these two budget package. Yamaha MHT-130...RX-V357/NS-P110 DENON DHT-1356..AVR-1306/SYS-56HT Can anybody advice which will be a better buy? Thanks
SiriuslyCold Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 have you heard both systems? which one did you like better?
evq Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 yeah, go listen to both of them then decide. Not all expensive or better 'branded' models sound better to ur ears. All depends on ur taste.
Guest gabjen Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Thanks for the info guys.just got the Yamaha combo today. By the way,any budget "play all" dvdp below $150 to recommend? Thanks.
SiriuslyCold Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 that would be the Philips. decent build, very friendly, and reliable to boot
Guest gabjen Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 that would be the Philips. decent build, very friendly, and reliable to boot Hi,was recommended Philips & JVC at the shop too.The Philips don't seems to have DTS stated, does it really matters? Will I be able to play dts disc? Plse excuse my limited knowledge on ht stuff as I have been only using those htib all this while. Thanks
SiriuslyCold Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 the Yamaha receiver has digital input, just get a digital (coz or optical) cable and connect the DVD player All players these days should send DTS out on the digital connection (in the old days you needed to see DTS digital out) and some have onboard decoding, but it really isnt necessary. also make sure the DVD player is region-free (ask the dealer, the label on the player and box will show region 3)

By the way SiriuslyCold ,you mentioned the digital cable.I suppose it's not the same as the interconnect that I can salvage from my old stereo amp to cdp, rite?
SiriuslyCold Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 you can use the stereo interconnects for the time being, but digital interconnects are different. there is only one (not one pair) and if you want to ghet coaxial cables, they have to be rated 75Ω like video cables. you could also get optical cables - check your DVD player and see which connection it has - some entry-level players only have one type and nowadays its probably optical.
