lomantik1624705825 Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 Hi all, I'm moving into my new house in June. Hunting around for a hi-fi cum home theatre system for my living room and bedroom. As it's a resale flat, the previous owner has inlaid all the cables into the wall and I have to live with it. I am intending to get a Pioneer Plasma TV PDP-506HDG for my living room and the master bedroom comes with a built in motorized projector screen. I am thinking of getting a Hitachi PJ-TX200 projector. For the master bedroom, I'm thinking of getting a B&W MT30. Will probably watch the occasional movie and play some XBox on the projector screen. Still thinking of a good amplifier to get. How much does MT30 cost? Was also considering getting Aego M as bedroom speakers but don't know if it'll sound good playing DVD, listening to music and playing games. Any recommendations or comments? As for the living room, I am thinking of getting a Mirage Omnisat, Denon 3805 and Denon 1920 DVD player. What's the difference between Mirage Omnisat and Omnisat micro? Between Denon, Yamaha and Pioneer amplifier, which one should I choose? I listen to all kinds of music and would like the speakers to project around the whole hall but my wife likes the Mirage speakers coz they're small and can travel 360 degrees. What's the difference between Integrated Amp and non-integrated Amp? Is Denon 3805 integrated? I noticed alot of you recommended KEC. Do they have all the items I am looking for? I hope to get everything from the same dealer so they can help me set up the system. Thanks a lot for your kind advice.
lomantik1624705825 Posted April 2, 2006 Author Posted April 2, 2006 Where else can I go other than KEC at Aldephi? Is Sim Lim Square any good? Is there any other recommendations for the set-ups so I can reduce cost? These set-ups are suggested by one of the shops I went to at Adelphi yesterday. Please help! Thanks!
bolts1624705732 Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Not many shops in Sim Lim sell HT gear. On the first level, I think there's City Electronics and this shop at the corner. Another one can be found on the second level.
wyvern Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 First and foremost, I think why most of us here recommend KEC is basically because they are sincere in doing business. Whatever budget you quote them, they won't laugh at you. Personally I won't go SLS because those guys sitting on high chair don't look pro to me. In my opinion, they know nuts about HT other then asking you to go for those 'branded' ones. Denon 3805 is a good choice and Yamaha 2600 is not bad either. KEC imports mainly the Yammy 2600 because the HDMI in the 1500 is a pass through rather than upscale as compaire 2600 and the difference is only $200. Yamaha packs more punch in term of movie.

I got my DVDP from Merdeka when they were having promotions and its 2 yrs old now, no prblms, play beautifully, sound out via Coaxial is very clear, and its only a basic Pioneer model. enjoy yr hunt... i had fun setting up and in still having hunt with upgraditis biting at my heels now. ;D
Guest jonlee Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Omnisat and omnisat micro...the difference is the size. The micros are smaller. :) Omnisat is good for movies. For music listening, it depends on individual expectation. I'm using the Omnisat for my surround speakers only. Front speakers are conventional box type. As for the living room, I am thinking of getting a Mirage Omnisat, Denon 3805 and Denon 1920 DVD player. What's the difference between Mirage Omnisat and Omnisat micro?
limestone Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I currently have a denon 1905.. though the next time that I upgrade, I might wanna try a yammie instead. :P
hifiluv Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I currently have a denon 1905.. though the next time that I upgrade, I might wanna try a yammie instead. :P when my SR4200 kaput, its confm a Panny XR digi AV amp for me. ;D
limestone Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 when my SR4200 kaput, its confm a Panny XR digi AV amp for me. ;D Panny so far no Pre-out le.. that's what I need..
dbchoong Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Panny so far no Pre-out le.. that's what I need.. The Panny digital amps will probably never have pre-outs (except for LFE). ;)
hifiluv Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Panny so far no Pre-out le.. that's what I need.. why u want preout? u mean u want to connect the av amp to another power amp? ;D
limestone Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 why u want preout? u mean u want to connect the av amp to another power amp? ;D Bingo. =)
hifiluv Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Bingo. =) ai so desu kah. sori for being lor soh, in tis case why dont get a high power AV amp, eg 100W x 7 type? ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 because of the straight thru digital path of the Panny XR, it's difficult to say how good the pre-amp section of the panny is, compared to normal analog amps. The sound of the receiver is also influenced by the DACs which are being used, and since the Panny has no DACs it's not going to be very useful as a preamp. IMHO getting the panny to use as a preamp makes it no different from any other entry level receiver with pre-outs, so you'd be better off with a similarly priced Marantz SR4500 or something. I know some people want to power just the front two with additional power amps but this isn't possible with the panny. If you wanna take a gamble, on part digital amplification, the HK DPR2005 is being sold in the US for around USD$500 (down from US$1.7K) and that has pre-outs - because, I think, the D2Audio modules use an analog input (the DPR2005 is SG$3k here) ai so desu kah. sori for being lor soh, in tis case why dont get a high power AV amp, eg 100W x 7 type? ;D the Panny is already 100Wx7 :P hehe p.s hifiluv, pretty soon, you'll need a whole webpage for your tube amp pics ;D
limestone Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 yeah... that's why no pannies for me as yet. =) panny is 100w x7 on 6ohms.... which makes it roughly 70-75w on 8ohms.
SiriuslyCold Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 wait till the next gen TI equibit chips I think 240W into 4Ω has been mentioned speaking of power, check out this deal - $1.7K down from $4K USD... sheesh
hifiluv Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 the Panny is already 100Wx7 :P hehe p.s hifiluv, pretty soon, you'll need a whole webpage for your tube amp pics ;D Hi S Cold, tks for info, wah so Panny already got the power ah..very tempting leh.. but SR4200 cannot even gana guni one... :'( model too old leidi. btw, Panny got 1 model, only 5.1 output right, how much is the power and px? still avail? about tube pics, sori its WIP, i m still trying to resize pics to make them smaller. dont worry, i wont take up more than 1 line one. ;D
SiriuslyCold Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I used to own a SR4500 just before i got my XR25 - went from 7.1 to 6.1 but a leap ahead in clarity. Hin Huat was selling a XR10 (5.1) XR30 (5.1) and XR25 (6.1). the current model XR55 is 7.1 and new XR57 is also 7.1 still.. i think the tube amp picture album webpage is a good idea :)
DIRTRUN Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 when my SR4200 kaput, its confm a Panny XR digi AV amp for me. ;D Wow another panny convert, Welcome, welcome to the club , bro Hifiluv....hehehe Any particular model or going for the latest 57? Regards. Dirtrun
dbchoong Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I used to own a SR4500 just before i got my XR25 - went from 7.1 to 6.1 but a leap ahead in clarity. I used to own a Yamaha RXV1200 and Marantz SR7300. Had a Marantz SR4400+Rotel RB985THX power amp just before I got my XR25 - so I changed from >$1k setup to $330 XR25 - to my ears, it was sound quality upgrade... ;D
hifiluv Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Wow another panny convert, Welcome, welcome to the club , bro Hifiluv....hehehe Any particular model or going for the latest 57? Regards. Dirtrun bro, Tks. one thing hv to happen first, my SR4200 must die on me first, coming to 6 yrs old already, but still going strong leh. infact i m using the SR4200 even to play music, the faster type, macham 80s disco music. my latest CD, Men at Work, The Essential, is damn shiok when play on the SR4200, really beaty one ;D also reason why i ask about 5.1 model is becos even right now i am only doing 3.1 becos i hv problems with running wires and speakers behind for surround. even at 3.1 the sound is very good, only thing is when bullets / plane fly back, u dont get the full effect. eventually i will like to hv 5.1 but not 7.1 becos the current living room size (5 x 4 mtr) do not warrant so many speakers lah..

dbchoong Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 hifiluv, no need to upgrade since your SR4200 still alive. Upgrade is never ending lah. Lucky for me, I already stop long time already ever since I got my Panny. Kind of strange as I was moving up from budget receivers ($500) to higher range (>$1k) and then suddenly I end up with the Panny that's even cheaper than cheapest receiver I've ever bought. ;D
