Go for it.

Don't forget to requisition the services of a crane operator when it comes to lifting your 40" CRT into place - but be quick... I'm told the recent up-turn in real estate development is leading to crane rentals rising. Don't forget to let us know where you found a CRT that large.  ;D

Just kidding, mate, but the answer should be obvious enough. Too big, too heavy, resolution ain't good enough (and becomes obvious as you go bigger), and, at really big sizes (34" and above), for a good quality CRT (e.g. Sony w/ 100 hz and line-doubling), $ for $, LCD is better value.

I am no Flat Panel specialist but resolution isnt everything, there are  refresh rates, I think it is called, to consider too.  CRT's still have a place in this world, I believe it is still enjoyable watching dvd's from 34incher...

That being said, Flat Panels are the rage and for anything bigger than 34in besides RPTV's, there isn't anything else or is there?

Weight wise, I wouldn't think too much about it unless you are the type that moves it a lot

Price wise, I thought it is cheaper than an equivalent Flat Panel Display?

Hey, I am raising more questions here than answering them...

Hehehe

Completely agree... with a caveat. 34" (4:3) amounts to very little when watching a letterbox DVD. Remember that 34" = about 32" in terms of viewable image area. Add the letterbox effect and you're down to - oh - about what a 26" LCD would give you? (give or take). So, for a 37" equivalent, you'd have to go well beyond 40" (CRT!!!!)  - can you imagine how big the beast will be? And, given that a good 34" (good, not "any old 34"") will cost you around $1500, you're getting awfully close to Amoi price territory as you go further up the CRT ladder...

DLP-based RP can be wonderful, provided you're sitting far enough away that by standing up your angle doesn't change severely. Works for some people, not all... In RP, the Samsung 50" (with the "rocket" design) is a terrific deal. 4K (incldg GST) at Parisilk (currently out of stock though).

Once is enough even for my 29" Sony Wega CRT... ;-)

FWIW, I'm not religious about the whole flat-panel thing. Just that it does make a lot of sense to go with newer, better technology, for most people... there will always be others for whom it equally makes sense to go with CRT (or even go with CRT for now while waiting for the dust to settle somewhat in the LCD / Plasma area). While I clearly do not belong to the latter group, I respect their opinions (provided the same are based on fact...  ;)  ).

from another point of view, crt always generates radiation, no matter how much filtered, there're definitely some leaking out.  lcd is radiation free, and consumes less power  ;D

Sometime "big" wasnt everything , take a look at TV boardcasting editing studio or some professional field purpose studio ,AFAIK many still prefer Small CRT for their job.

Maybe for big and good,we have to wait for next gen. SED TV which review said that its look as good as CRT but as slim as LCD/PHP...

LCD might be all the rage and 'latest' technology, but I still think CRT picture quality is superior.  Sure, they are heavier and bulkier, but how many times does the average person need to move the tv?

Buy an LCD if you spend most of the time watching DVD movies. For broadcast TV, give me a big 4:3 CRT anytime. Broadcast TV programs look real bad in 16:9 LCD. Until the day TV programs are broadcast in HD, I will continue to use 4:3 CRT for TV program.

Anyway, I heard HD broadcast is coming soon in this island. The wait could end soon.
