charles1624705780 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Simple Minds performing for the very first time in Fort Canning on 30 April (Sunday 8pm)... Tickets priced at $85. Anyone going?
charles1624705780 Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 Set list from last night's concert (not in order of play). The band is in excellent shape and Jim Kerr bonded well with the crowd. Crowd largely made up of expats with a sprinkling of locals (due in part to the exorbitant ticket price of $87). Sadly. the sound system does not do justice to the band's fine performance. The sound is way too loud and vocals are awfully distorted through the speakers. Of course, the obvious crowd fav is "Dont You (Forget About Me)". Crowd response is amazingly spontaneous and lively from the word "go" and are duely rewarded with not one, but two encores. The band ended the night with the rousing "Alive And Kicking". My only grouse is that they did not play "Promised You A Miracle" and "Mandela Day". Oh, and I bought a lovely tour T-shirt for $35. :) 1. Home 2. Stranger 3. Don't You (Forget About Me) 4. Waterfront 5. Alive And Kicking 6. Glittering Prize 7. All The Things She Said 8. Sanctify Yourself 9. Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) 10. Love Song 11. See The Lights 12. Let There Be Love 13. She's A River 14. Glitterball 15. Belfast Child 16. Stay Visible 17. Underneath The Ice 18. The Big Sleep 19. Book Of Brilliant Things
kopiman Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Nice review, charles. Funny thing was right after their Sunday concert, on the May Day holiday morning, I was browsing at HMV. I saw an angmoh woman walking briskly to the racks, looking under 'S'. Imagine my surprise when she picked up a Simple Minds CD! But too bad, the Simpe Minds catalogue was not well stocked at all...only ONE CD was left on the racks, "Celebration" i think. She frowned, made a "oh well" action and walked away. I wanted to tell her that the display racks had a 2CD compilation of Simple Minds selling at only 18.90....but alas, too late. Well, she was still obviously suffering from Simple Minds withdrawal symptoms from the night before, so we can imagine what a concert that was....but I am still waiting in vain for U2. :P
