Hitachi Plasma 42/55PD8800TA

Featured Replies

Hi fellow friends,

Need some help here. I am planning to get a plasma TV soon. Have been scouting around and has narrowed down to the Pioneer 436/506, Panny 42/50 (new one can't remember model) and the Hitachi one mentioned above. The Hitachi one was recommended by the sales guy at a chain store.

Picture wise, it did look quite impressive compared to the other 2 brands. Anyone has any experience with this? This model uses the Alis technology, and is 1024 by 1024 resolution. I tried to search for reviews on this model but couldn't really find much on this website.

Hope to get some feedback from everyone here. I'm looking at both the 42 and 50 in sizes.

Thanks!

Can't comment much but I am rather put off by the rather weird spec of 1024x1024. Reminds me of Fujifilm's notorious super CCD technology with claims of 5 megapixels resolution when the digicam market was mostly 2.1 megapixels. Serves only to confuse the mass consumer.

However, I did compare between the Hitachi 8800 and 7300 series. With the same panel size, e.g. 42", the 8800's MSRP is $5999 whereas the 7300 is $3999. What I can remember the salesman telling me was that the 8800 has more bells and whistles such as memory card slots, USB port for displaying images and videos from flash drives directly and 2 HDMI inputs, etc. But essentially the 2 panels are identical.

The Hitachi Alis panel uses "interlance" to obtain its 1024 X 1024.

Hence don't think its a true 1024 X 1024 progressive panel like the rest.

So far if got $$, most people will go for Pioneer or Panny ones.
