kzone Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Are there any? Or do I have to restrict to LCD at this price point? Its a living room setup, 3.3m wall to wall. Need to project 82". Projector lens to screen estimated to be be slighly less than 3m.
Audio Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Frankly, I wouldn't want to buy cheap DLP projectors...... Why? Because you would end up with a single DLP panel projector that uses a spinning colout wheel. Give me a solid state 3 panel LCD anytime. (Audio)
Phil1624705739 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 There are no short throw DLP below 3K.. likwise for those sub 4K model. Phil
zapp1624705742 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 If you are not worried about LCD type of projection - the Epson TW600 might be a good choice.
kzone Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 I'm trying to narrow down my shortlist before I audition them... Have shortlisted 4 LCD PJs and now trying to find DLPs that is within my budget and suitable for my viewing area. The LCDs shortlisted are Hitaxhi TX200, Benq 7700, Epson TW600 & Panny AE7900 (or is this a DLP?) Looks like I've to limit my choices to LCD at my budget level... :(
zapp1624705742 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 TW600 is value for money IMHO. 720p and cheap. But from my own experience make sure u got at least 3m of sitting space away from screen if possible to avoid seeing the pixellation :p
Guest jonlee Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 BenQ 7700 is a short throw DLP. The rest are LCD, but u got the Panny model wrong. Should be AE900. Eh...BENQ 7700 is now less than $3k? Wah...good price. I'm trying to narrow down my shortlist before I audition them... Have shortlisted 4 LCD PJs and now trying to find DLPs that is within my budget and suitable for my viewing area. And how is the quality?

kzone Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Yeah, last I heard its abt 3.5K. I'm makaing my purchase in July so gonna consider those slighly above 3K with the hope that it will be closer to my budget come purchase time :) Is it true that that the 7700 has no lens shift at all? so projector must be optically centre to the screen? Wouldnt that be at a very weird height? I'm finding one that can be shelf mount (shelf on wall above sofa)

This means that the centre of the lens is looking at the bottom of the screen if placed on a coffee table or top of the screen when ceiling mounted.
zapp1624705742 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Zapp, U are using the TW600 now? Any problems so far? And how is the quality? Happy with it now - considering its my first PJ. However, i must emphasize putting it in the living has disadvantage - i.e. not too good for afternoon viewing lol...

I though it will be at the centre of the screen.... with some rubber "coins" acting as "legs", can I place the Benq 7700 upside down on a wall mount shelf?
Luv4nature Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Yes, inverted placement of the PE7700 on a wall shelf is possible which is what I'm doing now. There's a front IR sensor so remote control is still possible. Get the height of your wall shelf right and you are able to run the projector at optimum optical condition (i.e. keystone setting at 0). Also have to be sure your shelf is not obstructing the cooling fan intake point at the side of the proj. Performance of the PE7700 is excellent at its price point and you should be considering it seriously. If you're interested to view my set up let me know.
kzone Posted March 28, 2006 Author Posted March 28, 2006 Luv4nature, I'd love to! Will PM u soon... :)
