media2368 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Hi all Gurus, I have some question here that need advise from you. Currently I am using 5.1 HT setup. All of them are Direct-Radiated Speakers. And just recently, I bought a pair of 2nd hand Bipolar speaker which I intend to upgrade my current setup. Now, my questions are as follows: 1) If I put Direct-Radiated Speaker (Rear or Back) with Bipolar Speakers (Back or Rear) as surround, will it caused phase cancellation? (As the current surround speaker were mounted 2m apart on Wall-Brackets, due to space constrain, the 6th or 7th speaker can only place 1.5~2ft away from the current surround and ceiling mount it.) 2) Should I use Bipolar as Surround Rear (or Surround Back) speakers? Why? Hope I have some advise from you. Thank you in advance. :) PS. The Bass driver is on top and tweeter is at the bottom for Bipole speaker and the Direct-Radiated speakers' driver is the other way round.
DIRTRUN Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Hiya, Is your AVR 7.1 capable? Or are you going to replace your existing surr. speakers with the new Bipole spkrs? FWIW, I do not like the sound of non-directional speakers for surr, I prefer in the face and ability to locate where the sound is coming from even just from the surrounds. My advice to you is to try both out and see which you like better, and then stick with that Regards, Dirtrun
media2368 Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 Thanks Dirtrun, for answering my question 2. :) Yes, my AVR is capable to run 7.1. I am not replacing the existing surr..but swapping (maybe). :)
