hplanet Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I saw this model as the IT Show 2006 Brochure at Benq Booth.. Models PE8720 - TI Darkchip 3 DLP PE7700 - TI DLP PE5120 - Not even DLP Chip AS according to the spec... Anyone know any lobang for LOCAL Benq distributor selling PJ?? ??? ???
blitz Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 If you are into DLP projectors, think you should check out the InFocus and Optoma before you decide. I still think that the BenQ projectors are over-rated.
hplanet Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 INFOUCS = EXPANSIVE Optoma = dunno got lobang a not!! Any one got Lobang for PJ??
c7221624705751 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I agreed with hplanet. IF is selling PJs strictly at MSRP no discount entertained. Worse when US drops the MSRP SG is still selling the old MSRP for another 3-6 months. (e.g 777 in US now can be had at abt US$12k, here, S$29999. Last time when X1 was selling at US$999, SG was selling at S$3299.) Unless u get some special under table deal, no way to pay them this profit margin. Optoma: now with the new dealer, not sure abt their pricing strategy. Like the new H72 in US is only $1999 MSRP (meaning atucal price < than that), here is asking $3999. Benq: well seems the agent is more willing to barge. Look how much the 7700 is now. I think KEC is quite aggressive, u can check with them. The 8720, before the recent price drop, was abt $8k. blitz: u seem to be very negative abt Benq. Which model gave you that much trouble ? To be honest from the 2 models I've seen (8700, 7700), they are definitely not over-rated. I think Benq/Optoma is on-par PQ wise.

Read so much good reviews about the 7700 before I 1st seen it in action. Preference are personal, but I really think it is a disappointment. Cannot watch it for more than 10 minutes.
Phil1624705739 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Ha. You may be quite right :P. Read so much good reviews about the 7700 before I 1st seen it in action. Preference are personal, but I really think it is a disappointment. Cannot watch it for more than 10 minutes. Hmmm.. You know, I got a really bad feeling that the 7700 you demoed was badly setup. I got very good impressions of both 7700 & 8720. Anyway, I would recommend the thread starter check out the InFocus IN76 going for $3,888. The cheapest 720p DarkChip2 DLP available in the market. Phil

Doggie Howser Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Just get one. If this is yr first projector, you'll be happy wif any of them. Promise. Here's my 2 cents: If budget is a constraint, get the cheapest one u can afford (in this case that will limit it to LCD). My thinking is: there'll be a batch of 1080p native displays in the horizon soon (using D5 LCDs or next gen DLPs). Chances are they'll start ard 8k-12k for DLPs. Wait a couple of years for the technology to stabilize and for prices to drop.. by that time, yr projector lamp will be in its last legs and you should be just right for the next technology refresh :) I like the TW600. More input capabilities (including D4 is you have an XBox 360 from Japan.. which will save u one component input). But it does lose out a little in terms of flexibility of placement (bigger zoom allows bigger screen at closer projection distances).
eggz Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I've seen both the BenQ 7700 and TW600 and prefer the TW600. These new D5 panels are great At the under $3K price point, I think the TW600 is hard to beat...

But at this price, I must agree with you that the TW 600 is a real good deal.

The current retail price for IN76 is US$2999 and the SP7210 is US$6999 in United States. In Singapore, they are retailed at S$3888 and $9888 respectively. That means, the MSRP in Singapore is even cheaper than in States!!!
blitz Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Hmmm.. You know, I got a really bad feeling that the 7700 you demoed was badly setup. Phil I saw it at its factory setting...
kaydee6 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I have owned TW600 and now using the Benq 7700. Compared both at home under the same environment and setup, the BenQ is the better projector. Now with the new firmware, picture quality on the BenQ is even better without much calibration needed. Maybe DLP is for me more than LCD..

Imagine Optoma H72 is S$3999 ! If I'm in the market for one fore sure I will get the IN76. Where u get this price ? (how abt the new price for 777 ?)
eggz Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Perhaps the best thing to do now is to wait for 1080 DLPs to come out, then the 720 DLP prices will really come crashing

I still think that the BenQ projectors are over-rated. The reason i chose Benq PJ is they have HDMI Connters.. It able to do HDMI to HDMI purely... swee ah!! :P

hplanet Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 Let wait for new technogoly to rise and the price will fall as i am not in a hurry to get a DLP PJ yet! not until next year...
hplanet Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 No objection, FYI HDMI Cables (updated June 2005) In short, HDMI cables are a smaller version of DVI cables. HDMI systems can also send and receive 24 bit, 8 channel, 192kHz digital audio signals as well as video on the HDMI cable. HDMI has only been available for a couple of years but is found on an increasing number of projection televisions, plasma televisions, LCD TVs, DVD players, and other consumer electronics devices. HDMI looks to become a connectivity standard for HDTV in the following years. HDMI connections are backwards compatible with DVI devices. Since the conversion is a pin-to-pin connection, there should be no detectable signal loss when converted. However, the DVI to HDMI conversions will not be able to carry the 8 channel audio signal available on a pure HDMI connection, since DVI ports don't support audio. Since video projectors and computer monitors do not typically provide high quality audio, DVI is likely to remain strong in these areas. See our DVI article for more about this technology. I still believe HDMI cable are much better transport mode for my pj.. I had read ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI I was very shock and awe with what one full cable can do...

htfreak Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Just spoke to this guy from AR Visual on the HD72 and he mentioned that in the next few months, there will be a new HD73 model coming out that incorporates the newer Darkchip3 DLP chip from TI. No indication on the pricing yet. Hopefully this one allows for a shorter throw distance as I need to fit the projection within a 2.8m distance to accomodate my 92" fixed screen.
